Purpose of Role:

To lead basic research and development activities that will result in new and improved products and processes. To provide technical solutions regarding latex and rubber processing and applications to both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities:

HSEEnsure the implementation of the Company SHE Policy for the prevention of injury, damage or loss to Company personnel and resources and ensure that line management are fully aware of their accountability for the environment, health and safety of Company Employees and others who may be affected by Company activities.Ensure that employees are made aware of particular SHE hazards and the necessary preventative action to be taken.Stop employees from taking unnecessary risks and stop any unsafe acts.Ensure new employees, visitors, particularly young persons, are given appropriate safety instructions, supervision and mentoring and take all necessary safety precautions and immediately report any hazardous situations.Not permit the use of plant and equipment, which is in unsafe condition, and immediately report defectsEnsure that persons under their control are competent and capable of carrying out any work allocated to them.Set a personal example in safety and health awareness by wearing all personal protective equipment supplied.  Ensure that all safety equipment provided to persons under their control is worn and not misused.Be instrumental in driving behavioral and cultural change within their operating area.Support company SHE policy to help deliver cultural development and sustained continual improvement in performance

Job ResponsibilityTo support the HOD or Technical Manager in ensuring all trial for molded product is done well & I accordance to the new product process requirement.Ensure to create SOP for new/existing molded product in accordance to the new product development process.To lead & guide development engineers on mould design for new productsTo assist & conduct trial molding & this includes troubleshooting & providing timelyTo monitor and approve quality of incoming materials, work-in-progress and finished productsTo provide information and research data by carrying out own experiments.Plan own and support team’s work.To provide technical support to manufacturing units, trouble shootings, quality and productivity improvement.Maintaining project files for ISO 9000 element design control.Provide timely and well written reports. - memo (latest results) - monthly highlights - R&D reports.



Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

Graduate in chemistry/polymer science/physics8-10 years of industrial research experienceStrong track record of achievement in the development rubber and latex industry and technology.Hands on practical laboratory skills.Good problem solving and analytical thinking skills.Experience of team and project management.Ability to find critical information from whatever source to understand new technologies,Solve problems and to move projects forward.Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Assignment and planning of work

Primary work objectives will be set by the Head of R&T or Technical Manager.Support tasks may be requested from time to time by Senior Rubber Technologists.The job holder is expected to plan his/her own work through the use of action plans agreed with the Head of Department - NPD.

Working relationships

Internally with the own team, Head of R&T, Technical Manager, DCO Manager, and senior WMM management team.Externally with the following:Analytical services (Rubber Research Institute, Sime Darby Technology Centre)Information sources (RRI, SIRIM, RAPRA, Universities)Existing suppliers or potential raw material suppliersLeading laboratory equipment suppliers

The job holder is expected to display a high level of initiative and a strong focus on the completion of projects on time.As project progress from the laboratory stage to production, the job holder is expected to organize a trial time with manufacturing departmental managers.The job holder is also expected to seek ways to improve the work standards to ensure that data are being produced and meet the standards of external laboratories.
