Technical Manager - Furniture
This role is an individual contributor for the Global Furniture Team. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week onsight in Holland, MI or Northbrook, IL. + Supports Technical Services leadership in defining the interpretation, application and uniformity of technical methods, techniques and requirements applied in testing, audits and/or inspections. + Develops guidelines, procedures and programs for internal operational adherence. + Partner with Quality and Operations functions to drive laboratory consistency. + Contributes to the development of processes and procedures required to achieve and maintain necessary accreditations and certifications with accreditation bodies and notification authorities. + Develops and/or reviews technical content that serves as the basis of training programs for reviewers and other staff to ensure appropriate and consistent application of requirements. Schedules staff meetings and/or teleconferences with reviewers for discussions of technical requirements, technical interpretations, procedures, form usage, etc. + Develops or identifies requirements to address new technical developments, product features, and/or applications. Works in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders to develop the appropriate requirements for certification. + Develops, implements, and maintains consistent and technically appropriate certification requirements in Standards and other standard-specific ancillary documents to provide for consistent interpretation and application of requirements for UL Solutions product certification services. + Supports strategic selling opportunities by leveraging industry relationships and providing technical expertise and advice during the sales process. + Understands standards development with knowledge of the consensus process, works with responsible stakeholders and Technical Committees to determine new/revised requirements. + Works with the responsible Engineering and Lab Operations (OPS) staff to determine any necessary test equipment and skills needed resulting from the changes to the standard. Also works with OPS to determine the effective date of any requirement changes to standards. + Represents UL at meetings of outside organizations; providing expert advice to influence industry approaches and elevate ULs thought leadership in the market. + Participates in UL, IEC, ASTM, and similar Technical and Standards Development meetings and activities in the areas of assigned responsibility. + Conducts webinars, presentations, technical trainings and workshops in region for internal and external stakeholders. + Leads special projects related to laboratory/field alignment, continuous improvement, as well as process and service innovation. + Assists the Business Development team in the determination of new business opportunities and advises of the technical resources needed to actively participate in new businesses. + Support and provide feedback to alignment initiatives for Technical Services. + University Degree in Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, or similar required. + 8+ years of experience in the Furniture or Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) industry. + Detailed working knowledge of the US, Canadian, and International Safety and Performance Requirements for Furnishings, both electric and non-electric. + Demonstrated ability to analyze data, to interact with all levels of the organization, and to present and facilitate discussions of the findings. + Ability to present complex and highly technical information in a straightforward manner. + Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex, and technical projects. + Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions to resolve problems. + Ability to coach and mentor team members to function as one team and develop individually. + Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously, on a team, and within a global matrix environment. + Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, as well as the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders. + Is capable of project reviews for assigned standards and has working knowledge of UL safety principles and hazard-based safety engineering (HBSE). What we offer: + Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $93,900-$156,500 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country.
