We are looking for:

 

The Technical Manager is a member of the Site Leadership team and leads the 18 member technical group in supporting the day to day and forward looking operations at the Niagara Falls (Welland) Industrial Site. The Welland site manufactures Phosphine and Phosphorus Derivative products which are sold to a global customer base in a broad range of applications.  

 

Responsibilities of the position include: direct involvement in the decision making around plant operations and upsets, prioritization, coordination and execution of activities by Technical Group members and preparation and management of the site capital spending plan. The Site Technical Manager interacts with business teams in developing the capacity improvement plans for the site assets.

 

In this case we seek a hands-on, experienced Technical Leader with a solid history at large or complex chemical manufacturing locations. Candidates must have first hand experience working closely with the Site Leader or Manufacturing Manager in executing site improvements and upgrading the level of performance of the organization. Candidate should have been a core member of one or more Site Leadership or Decision Making teams of an organization. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to manage and execute a broad portfolio of Capital and Technical Projects and first hand experience as a Project Manager in a project with a budget in the range of CAD 5 to 10 million or larger.

Supports the Niagara Falls, Canada (Welland site) in safely accomplishing its mission and achieving targets for its identified Key Performance Indicators. Is a key member of the Site Leadership team and involved in daily decision making. Leads key technical initiatives or failure analyses and focuses on the development of site technical talent.  Manages the three sub-groups of the Site Technical team: Process Control and Automation, Process Engineering and Project Engineering.  Is responsible for the development of the site capital investment plan with typical annual spending in the range of CAD 15 to 20 Million. Manages the Stage Gate and Approval procedure for major projects. Manages the portfolio of projects being executed at the site and the prioritization of pending projects. Tracks project progress and performance to the plan. Modifies the plan and priorities as necessary. Works closely with the Site Maintenance Team especially in the areas of Mechanical Integrity inspections, inspection results and equipment failure analyses. Ensures that there is full coordination and cross support between the Site Technical Group and the Production Area Engineers that report to the Operations team especially in delivering improvement projects. Oversees the start up of new project/process activities and leads the necessary technical decision making. Evaluates facility performance to ensure project deliverables are met.  Supports the site Health, Safety & Environment, Maintenance and Operations groups in their interactions with Government Authorities. Supports business planning capacity analysis including inputs for the mid-term strategic plan and annual budgeting process. Assists in identifying and developing the necessary action plans to satisfy business forecasts. Interacts with an on-site Research and Innovation team for the introduction and scale-up of new products. Fully understands and follows key principles of Process Safety Management including Management of Change procedures Fully understands and ensures compliance with Syensqo Procedures for Capital Investment Projects (reference: CapEx01 and Management Handbook for Investment Projects).
 

You will bring:

 

Minimum Education Level:  Bachelor’s Level Degree or Equivalent. Target Degrees: Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering with Chemical Manufacturing Background. Minimum Years of Industrial Work Experience: 20 with progressive levels of responsibility in Chemical Manufacturing. Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario or equivalent credentials transferable to Ontario. Direct experience in phosphorus reaction chemistry and related hazardous materials processing. Alternatively, direct experience in Chlor alkali, Ammonia or other industries involving the synthesis and handling of liquified compressed gas products. Would have previously held the role of Site Engineering or Site Technical Manager responsible for capital project execution, process improvement initiatives in the areas of capacity or product quality and New Production Introduction or process scale-up activities. Alternatively, would have been directly responsible (e.g. Plant Manager) for a Chemical Manufacturing operation of medium to high complexity and hazard level with a demonstrated high level of safety and operational excellence. In this role would have overseen a dedicated site engineering or technical team. Would have had a role as a Project Director or Project Manager for a Capital  Project of value CAD 5 Million or greater installing or modifying a complex (hazardous materials / reaction chemistry) project at a Chemical Manufacturing Facility. Able to effectively communicate with various levels of the organization. Strong project planning and execution skills. Able to lead Change Initiatives; understands the impact of change on Safety, Quality and potentially Customers. Fast Learner of new technologies.

On-site position in Welland (Niagara Falls area), Ontario - Canada Reports to the Site Manager Applicants not currently fully authorized for work in the United States and Canada will not be considered. It is recognized that a Canada work permit may be required for U.S. citizens.
