Technical Professional PIRE BETS Level 1-5

The Payload Interface Requirements Engineer (PIRE) will join the Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) team supporting the International Space Station (ISS) Program. The PIRE will work with both pressurized/internal payloads (experiments) and unpressurized/external ones. The payloads world is exciting and ever-changing as there are many different types of payloads with sponsors and Payload Developers (PD) ranging from NASA centers, popular store brands, commercial companies, and colleges/universities to name a few. More new and interesting payloads are added to the manifest regularly. The PIRE works with the PDs and Payload Integration Managers (PIM) to learn about their assigned payloads and determine what interfaces they have to the ISS. Interface requirements are documented in Interface Requirements Baselines (IRBs) via the NASA ORBIT database.

Work with the PD and the engineering discipline experts to define payload interfaces, establish requirements applicability, and identify exceptions to requirementsCoordinate with Payload Developers to develop IRBs and Payload Interface Revision Notices (PIRNs) in the NASA ORBIT PIRN databaseCommunicate regularly with NASA customers, PDs, discipline engineers, and other stakeholders for successful development and delivery of payload requirements and integration productsParticipate in PIM/PD meetings, Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), and/or Payload Technical Information Meetings (TIMs)Develop and maintain the IRB and assess impacts of requirements changes to assigned payloadsAssist the payload developer with verification assessments and coordinate data submittals into the verification database for tracking
