The right person for this role can work from one of our three Northern California locations; San Carlos, Santa Cruz, Marina.

 

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Technical Program Manager to join our Program Management team with a focus in Avionics and Electrical systems, schedule development and engineering project management from prototyping through FAA Type Certification and on to manufacturing introduction. The position will be in our Santa Cruz, CA location, and will actively work with various teams at Joby Aviation, including Powertrain and Electronics, systems engineering, system safety, manufacturing, supply chain, integration and test, certification and more. This role will operate in a fast paced, demanding, and rewarding environment with high expectations for individual contribution.

The Technical Program Manager, Avionics and Lighting will be responsible for systems related to:

Communications and AntennasCockpit AvionicsExternal Lighting Responsibilities Responsible for execution of the program plan for Avionics and Lighting systems per the requirements of Joby Product Development ProcessesWork closely with the team to develop and maintain hardware project timeline towards aircraft type certification and manufacturing introductionCoordinate cost, schedule and technical issue and risk resolutionCoordinate with suppliers and as needed, interfacing with legal, shipping, quality, and other Joby support organizationsCollaborate with program teams to define scope of work to development and update system schedules, resource information, and identification of variances from the baseline recordsEvaluate project schedule progress and performance and identify developing problem areasAnalyze critical path and constraints to determine effect of changes to schedule and recommend work-aroundConduct multi-disciplinary program reviews throughout the different phases of development, certification, and production readiness as required to coordinate and communicate system design projectsSupport program management team by implementing schedule changes into the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), maintaining timely and effective change management processes and proceduresConduct analysis to determine alternative courses of action or recovery on slipped schedulesPresent and report on System status to the aircraft Program Manager and Chief EngineerFacilitate implementation of new processes and improvementsMonitor work and remove impediments to progressFacilitate communication, discussion, decision making, and conflict resolutionBe flexible Required Bachelor’s in engineering or relevant field5+ years of experience in an Electrical Systems engineering environment with responsibility for project scheduling and managementExpertise in project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Confluence and JIRAProficiency in common workplace software: Word, spreadsheet, presentation software, etc. Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detailsDemonstrated experience in the simultaneous management of multiple high-paced engineering projectsStrong communication skills, both oral and writtenGood skills and knowledge of facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency Desired 10+ years of experience with aircraft Type Certification in an engineering environmentExperience with FAA certification processesExperience in the design and certification of Avionics and Electrical SystemsWorking knowledge of DO-160G environmental qualificationBasic knowledge of 2X.1309 analyses and processes, including Advisory Circular 23.1309-1E, SAE ARP 4761, and SAE ARP 4754ABasic knowledge of FAA regulations and guidance material and industry standards

 

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $116,600 - $195,800 annually. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
