Technical Program Manager, Promise Insights

The delivery promises we make are key drivers of customer behavior and influence the short and long-term profitability of Amazon’s global retail business. We serve as the interface between customer expectations and Amazon's industry-leading fulfillment capabilities. We are part of the Supply Chain Optimization Technology (SCOT) Group that develops and manages systems that optimize inventory acquisition and placement, so products are available for fast delivery. They ask hard questions and build solutions that provide the critical business insights needed to influence decision-making across retail and operations teams. They find timely answers buried in large data sets and complex systems, identify root causes, and get their hands dirty building data systems and sharing insight. The Promise Insights team is seeking a Technical Program Manager to drive cross-team collaboration for root causing and remediating direct customer-facing issues. You will work directly with Business Intelligence Engineers and Software Engineers to understand the data and the underlying system architecture in order to explain both the What and the Why for behavior customers are experiencing. You will respond directly to VPs and SVPs with analysis and action items (generally from multiple teams) and then track and drive completion of action items that will improve future CX. As such, writing ability is extremely important for this role. Key job responsibilities - Develop and maintain realistic schedules allowing the teams to perform agile design, development, testing, and execute frictionless production launch. Ensure there is continuous buy-in and commitment from all participating teams, and that internal slowdowns, incidents, and other impactful events are communicated in a timely fashion. - Negotiate with product and engineering teams to align funding and scheduling of the associated technical work to fit the timeline. Build a staffing schedule, propose and secure temporary funding if needed. Align the milestones of the schedule with schedules that teams participating in the program can commit to. Modify the timeline as necessary. - Proactively monitor and interview team leaders for risks and handle changes early. Create proposals to work around limitations, negotiate the final schedule with program owners, including up to S-team leadership. - Create mechanisms for recurring schedule check-ins. Determine and surface risks, and secure committed mitigation strategies. Cast a broad net to ensure that milestone rollouts are not conflicting with parallel programs. Serve as first point of contact to external program stakeholders, provide timely and proactive updates, and create compelling and accurate narratives describing what is being built, when, for what reason, and with what expected outcomes. Maintain documentation and momentum. Answer high level technical questions about business requirements or integration requirements from internal or external stakeholders. About the team Promise Insights team manages various critical services for customer delivery promise to improve our ability to analyze, understand, forecast, and modify promise behavior with a predictable result. The team owns the Promise data pipeline which captures relevant data from Promise services; Promise Analytics Platform and Web tools like Promise Viewer provide meaningful insights to stakeholders (PMTs, RSs, BIEs, Economists, and SDEs) for data-driven decision-making. We also use that data to run simulations to help answer business-critical questions; e.g., what is the impact on delivery promises and Amazon business if we had infinite inventory in every warehouse? Simulation plays a key role in enabling teams to achieve their business goals by identifying and sizing opportunities for increased profitability through cost savings and customer experience improvements. Simulations also provide insight into promise speed variants and the factors that impact them. The team is currently focused on evolving our capabilities into platforms that can be used across the company as well as expanding our Tools to not just present existing data, but to analyze that data against other systems to preemptively answer questions around what caused deviations in expected behavior. Basic Qualifications - 3+ years of technical product or program management experience - 2+ years of software development experience - 3+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience - Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules - Experience writing high-level summaries for review at the Executive level. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $197,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
