We are looking for an energetic and proactive
Technical Sales Manager
to represent the Propulsion Lifecycle Business supporting the Defense Maritime Solutions (DMS) business. The ideal candidate for this role would have solid Propulsion product knowledge, a customer centric mind-set, and the ability to influence corporate resources to generate and close sales opportunities for Propulsion lifecycle business.
This position is preferably located in Drunen, the Netherlands, but other locations can be considered.
What you will be doing
The Technical Sales Manager acts as a Propulsion Lifecycle Business representative, embedded in the Defense Maritime Solutions Lifecycle teams, to maximize Wartsila sales proposal scope while ensuring; technical compliance, configuration sensibility, and overall probability of success.
You will be responsible for promoting and selling Propulsion Lifecycle Business to US defense (DMS) customers. You will partner with DMS associates to define customer needs and drive multiple sales opportunities for Thrusters, Propellers, Gearboxes, Waterjets and Propulsion Control Systems. You will cover the whole scope from generating leads, developing opportunities to meet customer specific needs, and preparing detailed quotations enabling DMS to close the sale.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Directly lead and support DMS, shipyard and US government customer communications on opportunity development, product maintenance requirements and offering capabilities for any Propulsion Lifecycle Business (Parts & Field Services, Projects Services, Performance Services) Identify, manage, and develop sales opportunities within the US Government shipbuilding market together with DMS Lifecycle teams (short term and long term maintenance strategies) Support DMS sales team in development and annual growth of the Propulsion Lifecycle Business Support, and as applicable lead Capture Teams for DMS Propulsion Lifecycle Business Review and ensure compliance of integrated product offerings to customer specifications Support pipeline development and sales opportunity forecasting Lead and support Product Management in Marine to tailor products and deliverables (documentation, Code Resolution, manuals, etc.) to match DMS and US Government requirements Manage the sales offerings between the different lifecycle Business Units (Parts & Field Services, Projects Services, Performance Services) including the formulation of technical and commercial documentation for solution proposals based on customer requirements Maintain export compliance for all opportunities working with key internal compliance leaders
Accountabilities
Maximize the Propulsion Lifecycle Business into the US Government shipbuilding market without compromising profitability or reputation Achieve a high level of customer retention and satisfaction Achieve a high level of alignment between Marine and Defense Maritime Solutions Achieve annual Propulsion Lifecycle Business growth of 5%
Requirements
B.Sc. degree (Naval Architecture, Marine, Mechanical or Similar) and 4+ years of sales engineering, technical sales or engineering experience in shipbuilding industry Detailed understanding and experience of Wӓrtsilӓ’s Propulsion products, maintenance requirements and services offering. Familiarity with US Government / Navy shipbuilding and equipment specifications Ability to clearly compare / contrast US Government / Navy requirement to commercial offering and develop solutions to close the gap between the two. Understanding of FAR/DFAR regulations, ITAR and EAR export control requirements, ABS rules, EPA emissions regulations, USCG regulations, and marine contracting terms and conditions. Commercial and technical understanding of Propulsion products Independent and proactive, proven ability to take initiative Active listener who will consider customer way of working and prioritize their needs to present non-standard solutions
This function is directly reporting into Business Unit Propulsion and indirectly to the Director Program Management of Defense Maritime Solutions.
