ABOUT Hermosa

Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This position is based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.

 

The purpose of this role is to introduce a college student to the geological work being done at the Hermosa Project.  Duties may include core logging, underground and surface geological mapping and sampling, drill rig visits, and beyond. 

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

•    Ensure and maintains safe practices in alignment with South32 Hermosa standards and core values.   
•    Uphold safety and environmental standards and compliance. 
•    Geological and geotechnical logging of diamond drill core.  
•    Support accurate and consistent sample collection and QAQC initiatives. 
•    Support exploration and infill drilling programs and activities. 


ABOUT YOU

•    Actively enrolled in an accredited Geology Graduate or Undergraduate program.
•    Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite programs required.
•    Ability to uphold workplace safety and ability to abide by South32’s policies and procedures.
•    Demonstrated interest in Mining Geology, or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to South32 and the Hermosa project.
•    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas professionally.
•    Self-motivated and eager learner with aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
•    Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
•    Ability to take direction from leadership, mentors and managers.
•    Basic proficiency with technical writing, Microsoft suite, etc.
•    Authorization to work in the United States.
