Technical Services Supervisor
 The Opportunity: The Technical Services Supervisor will be responsible for leading the Technical Service Team for the Broiler and Breeder producers and oversees our RWA program in Alberta.  In addition, they will continue to build strong relationships with our external Stakeholders to strengthen our Broiler and Breeder Supply Chains.

The Technical Services Supervisor will work closely with their Manager, Procurement personnel, MLF Veterinarian, Hatchery personnel, Feed Plant Representatives and Growers. This position will also require development of positive working relationships with industry veterinarians, supporting industry, ACP staff etc.

This position is a vital link between Maple Leaf Foods and the Grower Community. Through developing and maintaining positive business relationships with the Grower Community, the Field Representative will build value for both parties such that the Company is assured of a steady supply of quality live poultry that is within weight and delivery specifications.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life: Maintain and potentially increase market share of live chicken; Upgrade the quality of chicken being procured by MLP; Provide training and support on the Raised Without Antibiotics (RWA) program. Deliver products required for RWA farmers (requires physical activity). Contribute to development of Animal Welfare strategic initiatives and execute annual plans. Lead on-farm animal welfare initiatives, including support on DOA investigations. Ensure cross-functional coverage for her area of responsibility and the other areas the team interacts with. Work closely with Catching and Live Haul teams to drive for improved AW and lower DOA’s. Communicate actively with MLF Veterinarian to discuss special cases in the field. Conduct necropsies on farms and/or submit birds to labs when required; Forge good working relationships with breeder producers, hatchery and plant teams to drive for better overall performance by looking for continuous improvement opportunities. Work in partnership with our Feed Mill Partners to ensure proper feed availability necessary to meet weight targets and program mix targets; Attract and retain new entries into the broiler business. Develop and manage budget; Develop and deliver training and communication binders and tools for producers; Submit reasonable expenses in a timely fashion; Provide effective and timely responses to Grower concerns/issues (may require flexible working hours at times); Establish and maintain a regular field presence for MLP; Assist their Manager in driving awareness and understanding of the Leadership Edge Values within the Department; Continuous Improvement - Assist Growers to improve egg/chicken quality and farm profitability through aiding their analyses and interpretations of data; Attend meetings as required; Providing vacation coverage within the Department as needed; Get involved in the industry at large; What You’ll Bring: 1-3 years working experience Experience in broiler and breeder production an asset; Post-Secondary certificate, diploma or degree in a related field of study. Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills; Advanced computing skills; Conflict Management skills; Strong Team Player, yet fully comfortable working independently and autonomously; Self motivated; Exceptional organizational and time management skills; Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license; Willingness to perform occasional physical activity Poultry health and basic pathology knowledge and willingness to conduct necropsies in the field. Willingness to learn and apply Six Sigma methodologies and tools.
