Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?Travelers' Claim Organization is at the heart of our business. By providing assurance to our customers during life's rainy days, The Northland Claim team provides quality claim handling throughout the entire claim life cycle. As a Heavy Truck Technical Specialist, you will make initial customer contacts and determine coverage as well as investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve tractor trailer physical damage claims. In this role you will complete liability analyses for first party claims and make liability determination decisions for third party claims. You will also serve as a technical resource to physical damage and liability claim professionals and underwriting partners. This position is based 100% remotely and may include a combination of mobile work and/or work from your primary residence.What Will You Do?Independently investigate each claim through prompt contact with appropriate parties such as policyholders, claimants, law enforcement agencies, and witnesses to determine the extent of liability, damages, and contribution potential.First party claims: Complete a liability analysis to determine whether the claim should be sent to Subrogation to pursue the claim. Third party claims: Make liability determination to determine payment to the claimant.Establish and maintain proper indemnity and expense reserves.Deliver consistent customer service by stating and clarifying the claim process, setting expectations, maintaining on-going communication, and meeting commitments to achieve optimal outcome on every claim file.Travel to the location of the tractor trailer to inspect the physical damage.Prepare and document accurate vehicle damage appraisals, Actual Cash and Replacement values according to applicable regulatory and corporate guidelines.Negotiate disposition of claims with insureds and claimants or their legal representatives.Recognize and implement alternate means of resolution.LICENSING OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: To perform the essential job functions of this job, acquisition and maintenance of Insurance License(s) may be required to comply with state and Travelers requirements. Generally, License(s) are required to be obtained within three months.Perform other duties as assigned. What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?Extensive knowledge of tractor trailer and/or auto repair and repair techniques, including thorough understanding of heavy/specialty equipment terminology and construction. Thorough knowledge of claims appraisal systems and overall claim operations. Demonstrated ownership attitude and customer centric response to all assigned tasks. Ability to travel extended distances, with little or no advance notice, demonstrating effective planning, expense, and cost control skills. Demonstrated communication skills with attention to detail, with a focus on producing quality, error-free work, and the ability to present information effectively. Ability to think strategically and use judgement to resolve issues as they arise. Ability to use negotiation skills to influence management and stakeholders and make recommendations.

What is a Must Have?High School Diploma/GED or equivalent. Two years tractor trailer or auto appraisal experience. Experience utilizing computer software, including Microsoft Office products including e-mail and web-enabled applications. Valid driver’s license.
