The Core Exterior Structural Systems organization is seeking a Technical Specialist specializing in BIW Underbody Structures. This individual would serve the Exterior Structural Systems team as the lead subject matter expert in BIW with a focus on Underbody components. As such, they own the development, authorship, sign-off and maintenance of all related Core and Foundation documents. The TS is responsible to ensure programs are completing commodity execution with quality, and industrialize PCA’s based on systemic failures modes and escape points. The TS works as part of a team to solve new product design challenges, plant concerns, material shortage issues, and develops new technologies (materials) to support future architectures. They also co-own the BIW Stamping and Assemblies commodity strategic plan to ensure BIC quality, cost and lightweight execution within ever-evolving, multi-material platforms.

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or a related physical science field of study. 10+ years as a Body Exterior Design and Release Engineer or similar experience. 6+ years experience with job responsibilities specific to BIW Components and Assemblies. Demonstrated expert level knowledge of products and supply base, including stampings, assembly, extrusions, castings, joining and regulatory items. Demonstrated expert level BIW attribute delivery including: Safety, Durability, Corrosion, NVH, TASE, BIW Requirements and others. Experience in all program phases from Pre-Program through Launch including one major (scale 4-6) program. Working knowledge of applicable Design, Analysis, Verification, Quality, Manufacturing, and Assembly methods. Demonstrated improvements in customer satisfaction, reduction in warranty, total cost reduction. Working knowledge and experience with Engineering toolset – CAE / CATIA, TCE. Excellent written / verbal communication skills. Demonstrated track record of strong leadership behaviors. Excellent problem solving skills. Experience with Advanced Technology development – particularly advancing mixed material system solutions. Experience with program timing and delivery requirements. Feasibility assessment of program-specific material combinations during the development phase. Ownership of customer correlated BIW requirements that meet and exceed regulatory and customer demands. Perform Technical signoff (TSO) and High Impact Requirements (HIR) signoff at key program milestones, and program CDR signoffs. Provide technical advice and support for concerns processed through Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG), the Automotive Safety Office (ASO), Office of General the Council (OGC) and Design Analysis teams.Institutionalize knowledge and best practices Develop, author, lead sign-off and maintain Core documents including ES’s, Requirements, Design Rules, DFMEA’s, SCCAF’s, training materials and other required documents. Deliver / Manage Foundation/Quality documents (DVP, DFMEA, interface diagrams, boundary diagrams). Develop new and continuously improved Engineering Specifications, standards and test methods – physical/analytical. Drive continuous improvement in the Supply Base.
