Technical Specialist Laboratory
Full-Time; Days 8am-4:30pm
Overview
Under the direction of the appropriate laboratory management and/or the clinical director, performs and develops testing for the clinical laboratory. Ensures that efficient and effective work process use and procedures are followed utilizing regulatory and safety requirements. Performs patient testing as requested by the administrative or assistant director. Serves as a technical resource for the department.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluates new tests and develops projects according to plans and guidelines provided by the clinical director and/or laboratory supervisor. Coordinates and oversees development projects, such as new assays and procedures, in the department. Communicates scientific information and progress to the laboratory supervisor and director. Under the direction and consultation with the appropriate laboratory management, delegates responsibilities on development projects to appropriate technologists. Provides technical advice and direction and serves as the resource person for laboratory staff involved in a development project. Troubleshoots problems with laboratory instruments and procedures and makes necessary corrections. Performs feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses on new initiatives. Continuously evaluates current instrumentation and procedures to identify quality and efficiency improvements for laboratory methods, technology, and instruments. Responds to inquiries about assays, results, clinical protocols, reference ranges, and laboratory procedures. Assists in writing new procedures and helps to ensure all policies and procedures are up to date. Performs testing responsibilities of medical laboratory technologists when the need arises or during periods of a significant staffing shortage. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Basic Sciences, or another related field is required. ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Three years of relevant experience is required. Specialty certification in Special Chemistry or a Master’s degree is preferred.
