Position Summary:
Sovah Danville is seeking a full-time Technical Specialist to provide leadership and technical oversight in the laboratory's clinical chemistry department.
Verifies patient and specimen identification before performing any procedure.Evaluates, selects, and implements appropriate test methodologies for clinical use based on the laboratory’s scope of care and customer needs; collaborates with appropriate staff to develop practice guidelines.Utilizes the quality assurance or process improvement plan/cycle to improve new or existing processes in order to prevent reoccurring problems and to continually promote customer satisfaction, including pre-analytical and post-analytical processes.Maintains specialty knowledge in the technical areas in order to collaborate with the laboratory staff, the physicians, the nursing staff, and other customers on appropriate use of medical technology.Develops and implements quality control programs to ensure reliability of testing procedures, proper functioning of laboratory equipment, and compliance with applicable federal regulations; prepares and maintains related records.Resolves technical problems and ensures that remedial actions are taken and documented whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance criteria.Performs competency assessment according to Laboratory Competency Assessment protocol.Identifies training needs and develops in-service and educational programs based on current needs, new policies or procedures, or on problems identified during supervisory review or competency assessments.Determines, coordinates, and supervises daily staffing assignments and levels.Provide direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff.Performs or assists with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.Assesses and ensures quality of services delivered and facilitates staff development programs.Ensures staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.Performs staff responsibilities as needed to fulfill required service levels.Leads the handling and resolution of complex issues and complaints.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate of a Program in Medical Laboratory Science required.Master's degree preferredDrag
Required Skills:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure continuity of care and appropriateness of lab coverage to the patients of Sovah Health Danville on all units.
