About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the Lihir fishing and boating clubs provide access to pristine waters and beaches, while our onsite deli and café serve fresh local and imported produce, barista-made coffee, and freshly baked goods.

Reporting to the Senior Specialist – Shovels and Drill you will lead by example by setting high standards in safety, work quality, professionalism and troubleshooting. A key focus to your role will be to ensure machine efficiency across the drill fleet and ensure machines meet agreed availability and mean time between Failure targets through effective pre-release and asset condition inspections.
As an expatriate, you will play a critical role in the ongoing development of the team, in support of Newmont’s commitment to developing our national and local workforce.
This role will be working a 22:20 roster where you will be working a combination of both day and night shift. This role is offered on a 2-year Fixed Term-Full time basis.
Your role will consist of:• Coaching and development of the national and local workforce
• Attend daily maintenance pre-start meeting
• Read work package with work party
• Undertake isolation of plant and equipment
• Undertake maintenance activities in accordance with work packages
• Monitor maintenance activities for safety, quality and productivity
• Perform on the job training and coaching to ensure that tasks remain on track and are completed to the highest quality
• Perform quality pre-release inspections
• Perform daily inspections on drills
• Management of removed and returned components
• Review returned work package
• Management of quality equipment inspections to determine priority
• Monitor and escalate improvement opportunities within Field Maintenance equipment
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement
• Ensure company safety procedures, safe working practices and fatal risk management standards are followed
• Drives and influence proactive safety behaviours

This role is offered on a 22:20 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from Australia to Lihir Island.
Our FIFO employees stay in a secure and comfortable camp, in an en-suited and airconditioned room equipped with mini fridge, TV and Wi-Fi. A variety of healthy meal options are catered for at our mess; and the wet mess provides a relaxed social setting where employees can unwind with a game of pool or darts.
