Technical Support Engineer

Today, Broadcom is extending its proven data center expertise across the entire network with future-proofed solutions built for consolidation, virtualization, and cloud computing. **Role Summary** : The Technical Support Engineer functions as a member of the Brocade Global Support organization and is considered a Brocade On-Site Engineer (OSE). The Brocade OSE role provides support and expertise for Brocade Premier Customers remotely and, at times, on site. Strong fault isolation and root cause analysis skills are required to diagnose and solve complex technical issues. Candidates will work hand in hand with the Brocade Support and need to have customer-facing skills as they will be required to join conference calls or attend live troubleshooting sessions. Outside of the Monday through Friday, Brocade OSEs are expected to be available nights and weekends to assist customers with their projects when applicable (occasional weekend or overnight hours and on-call as required). **Main Duties** : The Technical Support Engineer will be a Brocade On-Site Engineer (OSE) and will provide assistance to an assigned Brocade Premier customer(s), through, but not limited to, the following activities, to help maintain a continued level of highly available operational performance: • Provide expertise in the design, planning and implementation of complex SAN infrastructures. • Participate with Brocade hardware refresh planning. • Assist in assessing the existing environment and mapping to new design. • Assist with migration planning • Remotely assist with change execution as needed. • Assist in implementing SAN management tools that streamline daily operations. • Advise on infrastructure reliability and management through the development of in-depth documentation and best practice methodologies. • Lead educational workshops to expand the knowledge and skill set of internal SAN designers and administrators. • Provide and review best practice recommendations for architecture, design, management and operation of the Customer’s Brocade infrastructure. • Support the operation and management of the Customer’s Brocade infrastructure. • Support the improvement of infrastructure monitoring and reporting capabilities based on the deployment of Brocade management software. • Assist in the delivery of Brocade technology proof of concepts. • Support the development and maintenance of infrastructure documentation relating to the Brocade infrastructure within the Customer environment. • Assess the Customer’s Brocade infrastructure and make recommendations on improvement and optimization. • Support the design or provide advice on Brocade solutions within Customer infrastructure projects. • Support the implementation of the Brocade technology solutions within the Customer environment. • Create and review SAN Health reports • Perform life cycle management reviews • Communicate with the Customer’s business units and vendors on issues relating to the infrastructure. • Participate in the Customer’s change management meetings for projects related to the infrastructure. • Checkout of servers running Brocade Software post remediation with mandated OS patching • Initial install/configuration of Brocade software products (SANnav, ASC-G, etc) covered under the maintenance, unless otherwise specified by Customer • Upgrades to Brocade software products (SANnav, ASC-G, etc) covered under the maintenance, unless otherwise specified by Customer • Configuration of the FICON directors, initial and ongoing, and keeping configuration diagrams up to date • Discovery of the FICON directors for SANnav **Desired Skills, Experience and Qualifications** : • BS degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience and 8+ years of experience in a senior client-facing role at a technology company; OR MS degree and 6+ years of experience • In depth knowledge of networking technologies and protocols, and specifically storage area networking (SAN) • Understanding of SNMP monitoring and management • SAN domain experience required. Brocade associate and professional certifications are desirable. • Must have knowledge on how to configure, manage and support (via command line) the following: logical switch creation and management, FCIP Tunnel creation, zoning, SAN Fabrics, FOS upgrades/downgrades, config backup/restore, snmpv3 configuration, MAPS configuration, understanding of longwave and shortwave optics, understanding of Brocade Support Link (BSL), PEX, FICON, IBM Global Mirror, PUTTY, and hardware assembly • Customer focused with a record of accomplishment of developing successful relationships with external and internal customers. • MS Office / Google Suite expertise. • Record of accomplishment of successfully managing complex IT projects. Ability to rapidly adapt and adopt to new technologies • Excellent customer communication (Verbal and Written), problem solving, planning and organization skills • Works cooperatively with others as a teammate to achieve results, build morale, and ability to work cross functionally in a rapidly changing organization. • Additional Language (Spoken business level) a plus • Successful implementations of current generation SAN products, especially Brocade products • Experience implementing and customizing monitoring tools and features in SAN products • Experience with Open SSL and certificate implementation • Experience with Linux and / or Windows server implementations **Physical requirements** : • Frequent use of mouse and keyboard • Frequent phone usage • Occasional lifting Broadcom is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
