This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.

Purpose

This position is responsible for leading crews and coordinating the activities of onsite workers engaged in the construction, installation, and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure.

ResponsibilitiesLead full time employees and contractors on the job site Relay instructions, scheduling and assigning work in the absence of the supervisor Inspect completed work Perform work typical of the craft and/or job classification of those workers in the group (placing fiber and copper cable through manhole and tunnel systems, splicing, troubleshooting and testing copper and fiber etc…) Inspect work area for protection/including Safety hazard warnings Assist supervisor with creating estimates Enter time to work orders Driving university owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this position. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy UTS157. Other related functions as assigned. 

Required QualificationsHigh school graduation or GED.Minimum of two years’ experience in leading Outside Plant crews.Minimum of five years’ experience in maintenance and repair of telecommunications crafts trade (placing outside plant cable to include fiber optic and copper cable, fiber and copper cable splicing/terminating, working with cable air pressure).Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and in construction areas of new buildings or renovated areas of existing building.Ability to read and understand safety placards and follow OSHA rules and regulation.Must be available for afterhours work and coordination effort.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred QualificationsCompletion of related technical courses.5+ years of experience with troubleshooting and splicing Fiber optic cables.5+ years of experience with troubleshooting and splicing copper cables.5+ years of experience with troubleshooting and repair of pressurized cable plant.Experience with creating cable certification reports.Experience with creating estimatesExperience with Pinnacle

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. MVR will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a university owned vehicle.

Salary Range

$60,000.00 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Monday - Friday 6am-4:30pm (four 10-hour days), Occasional overtime may be required for this position
