The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs. The Engineering Technical Writer is responsible for providing and facilitating documentation support across the COMET contract. This may include reviewing or authoring engineering reports, Operating Procedures (OPs), Desk Instructions (DIs), official contract forms, and other means of documentation through programs such as Excel, Word, and Acrobat. Engineering Technical Writers work closely with engineers, project and team leads, and subject matter experts to obtain an understanding of technical requirements and ensure documents are consistent, clear, concise, and grammatically correct. Technical Writers use the Government Printing Office (GPO) Style Guide, the Gregg Reference Manual, and the NASA KSC Technical Documentation Style Guide as references when writing, editing, formatting, standardizing, and preparing documentation for review and publication. **Responsibilities** Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to: • Perform basic, applicable technical writing tasks such as Design Analysis Reports (DARs), Operating Procedures (Ops), Desk Instructions (DIs), and etcetera. • Fundamental working knowledge in: o MS Office Suite o Adobe Acrobat o Visio • Demonstrated high-level written skills in English, grammar, and authoring language. • Familiarity with proofreading engineering technical data. • Interface and communicate with engineering personnel, project management (PMs), and other contract counterparts on an as needed basis. • Navigate in KDDMS-Windchill (Kennedy Design Data Management System) and Jama as needed to support documentation peer review and release process is preferred. • Perform other related duties as assigned. **The candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of relevant communications experience within the field of technical writing.** **Depending on the candidate’s experience,** **requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.** **Job Requirements** • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe software packages is required. • With limited guidance, must be capable of writing, reviewing, and providing comments on technical documentation regarding new engineering products as well as restoration of existing engineering products to intended specifications. • Excellent writing, communication, presentation, and customer interface skills required. • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment. • Must be well organized, flexible, and capable of effectively prioritizing several multidisciplinary tasks. • Self-motivated, demonstrate initiative, and able to work independently (or with minimal supervision). • If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required. **Desired Requirements** • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of specialization is preferred. • Appropriate understanding of basic engineering principles to the effect of writing coherent and concise technical documentation is highly preferred. **Physical Requirements** • May be required to climb stairs to access equipment for trouble shooting. • Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and other associated personal protective equipment. • Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing. • Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures. • Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency. **Work Environment** • May be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex. • Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site. • Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand, may be required to access various locations on the facility. • Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary. • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and company safety standards. **Equipment and Machines** • Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules. **Attendance** • Full-time work hours. • Position may require occasional overtime, including weekend work, depending on task. • Must be dependable and punctual. • Shift work may be required. **Other Essential Functions** • Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication. • Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel.
