Job Summary

If you are a Technical Writing professional, Emerson has an exciting role for you! We are looking for a Technical Writer to work with our Technical Communications team. This role will work independently and as a part of a team to develop and implement software user manuals, reference manuals, data sheets, and online help files.

You will also be responsible for working with developers, validators, and product managers to understand product requirements. You will collaborate with other writers on the team to ensure consistency across all types of technical documentation.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Write with professional-grade grammar and spelling, and utilize solid sentence/paragraph structure.  Edit documents for grammar, spelling, format, style, controlled English, accuracy, and ambiguity. Apply formats according to style guides and controlled English standards with little rework when creating technical communication initiatives including manuals, data sheets, online help, etc., from concept to completion. Understand how technical documentation should be organized so that information flows logically. Work collaboratively with developers, validators, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements. Work diligently on the feedback received from SMEs, peers, editors, and leads to produce documentation that is accurate and easy to understand.  Handle multiple projects concurrently and manage time wisely. Meet prescribed deadlines and commitments while ensuring accuracy and completeness. Organize and conduct meetings or interviews with development engineers and other department SMEs locally and internationally to gather pertinent information for documentation. Work autonomously in labs and make use of existing information found on intranet and internet. Rely on users’ sites and professional exchanges to collect information. Possess a solid base of computer skills. Understand content management software such as FrameMaker, MadCap, Paligo, or similar software. Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Visio, Excel, and so forth). Quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures. Break down technical/complex concepts into understandable documentation objects. Regularly attend and actively participate in the project conference calls to discuss status and queries. Attend all assigned training sessions to develop/enhance skills. Contribute to ongoing efforts to improve documentation clarity and ease of use.

You can juggle multiple assignments in constantly evolving and sometimes unexpected situations. You actively seek input from pertinent sources to make timely and well-informed decisions. You handle the risk that comes with moving forward when the outcome is not certain.

For This Role, You Will Need:

Minimum 5 years' experience in the technical writing field, focusing on software products. Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Experience with content management authoring software. Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word and Visio). Ability to work in a team. Ability to interact and gather information from geographically dispersed members. Self-motivated and willing to accept challenging assignments. Passion to learn new products and share knowledge.  Experience in the power generation field is a plus.
