Job description:
The Technical Writer will play a pivotal role in the Cyber Security Enhancements Program that will improve and extend the State of Michigan’s security capabilities. The Technical Writer will work closely with the Project Manager and Business Analyst on various analysis and documentation tasks. Primary responsibilities will include:
(1.) Analyzing existing documentation for inaccuracies and gaps. 
(2.) Addressing those inaccuracies and gaps (remediation). 
(3.) Creation of new policies, procedures and standards. 

Skills Required:
Authoring/Editing. Excellent grasp of the English language, spelling, grammar MS Word MS Excel MS Power Point. Other authoring tools Sharepoint or equivalent. 

Skills Preferred:
Procedural Based Writing Business analysis techniques. 

Experience Required: 
Minimum 3 - 5 years of writing experience. Experience working within large organizations. Excellent written communication skills. Ability to effectively work with employee and contract-consultants. Skilled with Microsoft products, in particular MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint. Able to work on multiple work streams and projects in parallel.

Experience Preferred:
IT Infrastructure documentation.
IT Security documentation.
NIST Framework or related. Writing enterprise level Policies.

Writing enterprise level Procedures Writing enterprise level Standards.
Good verbal communication skills. 

The Technical Writer will be a key resource in both tactical activities as well as formal project initiatives following the standard project delivery methodology. The ideal candidate must be a quick start, must be resourceful to accomplish tasks, and able to operate in a large complex IT environment. The candidate will need to have excellent written communication skills using various documentation tools such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Visio, etc. The role is very hands-on and will include authoring documentation, process flows, presentations, guidelines, etc. Experience in IT security and governance would be ideal. Experience in technical writing and/or being a technical writer is expected.
Job Responsibilities.
• Analyzing existing documentation for inaccuracies and gaps. 
• Addressing those inaccuracies and gaps (remediation).
• Creation of new policies, procedures and standards. Author security policies and procedures (new and updates).
• Standardize documentation using templates and best practices.
Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.
• Organize the policies and procedures into a taxonomy.
• Work directly with the policy and process organization to publish the end deliverables.
• Technical writing for any and all needs determined by the projects and work efforts. Act as a scribe in certain meeting and workshop to capture meeting results and content. 

Education Preferred:
Bachelor Degree, preferably in English, Communications, IT, Engineering, Mathematics, Business.
