Your Title: Technical Writer

Are you interested in developing Geospatial software that can be used to describe, model, and improve the world around us?

Do you strive to help create and document software and derive happiness from making other’s jobs easier using the software you help build?  

Do you want to contribute to the software development process by shaping the UI and customer experience workflows to change the way the world works?

If so, you will be central to this productive team that builds our Geospatial flagship office software, Trimble Business Center (TBC).

What You Will Do

As part of an international software development team, you will help create and document cutting-edge solutions to real-world problems faced by professionals in the fields of Surveying, Construction, GIS, BIM and CAD.

Plan and outline product documentation, and estimate the resources needed to produce it.

Interview subject matter experts and developers.

Write documents, including online help, release notes, product news, and tutorials.

Publish and test the documentation.

Review and edit program strings and other developer-written text.

Help the delivery team groom user stories so that requirements are satisfied by the user interface (UI), and that features are not developed out of context.

Assist the developers with UI design and consistency throughout the software.

Work with UI Designers to create the requisite mockups, icon concepts, and conceptual graphics for help topics.

What Skills & Experience You Should Bring

Bachelor’s English degree or related and/or equivalent professional experience

Proactive team player mindset that strives to engage with distributed colleagues

Demonstrated ability to describe complex technical concepts in clear, concise, and grammatically-correct American English

Capable of meeting deadlines for deliverables despite changing requirements and scope

Willingness to accept and integrate edits and rewrites of your deliverables

The ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects simultaneously

Demonstrated understanding of the principles of technical writing and editing, documentation management, and graphic design

Experience using AuthorIT, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, SnagIt, and HTML (or equivalent of each) to create and edit content

Experience working within an Agile software development process and environment

Experience using RoboHelp, Illustrator, PhotoShop, Flash, and Captivate, (or equivalent of each) to create and edit content is a plus

Familiarity with principles of instructional design and quality assurance is a plus

Familiarity with terrestrial and GNSS surveying, construction, mapping, CAD, and 3D modeling is a plus
