JOB SUMMARY:

 

If you are an Technical writer professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you!  Based in our Austin, Texas location, you will develop detailed installation and user documentation for a diverse set of software products. You will work with product developers and members of the user documentation team to develop content that will enable our customers to successfully install, set up, and use our products.

 

AS AN TECHNICAL WRITER, YOU WILL: 

Develop, write, and support end-user documentation that includes high-level technical content, reference material, and detailed, task-specific work instructions Work with product developers, domain experts, product marketing managers and members of the user documentation team to develop technical content that enables our customers to successfully install, set up, and use our products Write end-user documentation for a multi-disciplined and multi-cultural audience, including process control operators, control systems engineers, configuration engineers, and others Work in DITA CMS to write new documentation and maintain existing documentation Follow the standard processes outlined by Emerson for writing style, format, and content Explore complex technical products and provide technically accurate and audience-focused documents for new and existing functionality in software and hardware Be responsible for driving the review and approval of technical content within the document management system

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience or a master’s degree and 3+ year of relevant experience Exceptional English writing and verbal communication skills Ability to develop product understanding by working closely with product developers in an Agile development environment Ability to design and organize document structure Interest in hands-on installation, configuration and use of the software to further develop product understanding Understanding of accepted technical writing style conventions Experience in writing technical documents Ability to work closely as part of a team Dedicated and able to work independently Ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects and monitor their progress with minimal supervision Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines Strong research skills Legal authorization to work in the United States

 PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:  

Experience with modular documentation (for example, DITA XML) and component content management systems Desire to seek continuous improvements and innovation Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel Demonstrated internships in technical writing/information development
