Technician, Medical Laboratory

We are looking for a part-time Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at the Somerset Clinic location. 

Job Description

This position is responsible for performing and analyzing complex medical laboratory tests and procedures which require the exercise of independent judgment with supervision.


Accountabilities:

Receives, processes, and analyzes all laboratory specimens according to test and specimen        requirements, recognizes and investigates all erratic, inconsistent or abnormal results even when no malfunctions or problems are apparent in order to obtain accurate results. Prepares reagents and controls following correct procedures and labeling according to CAP guidelines.  Participates in proficiency testing in accordance with CAP and Joint Commission requirements. Documents department records accurately. Processes quality control as indicated per procedure and follows department protocols to assure accuracy of test results. Consistently follows department procedures and protocols for prioritizing testing, specimen suitability and specimen handling in order to obtain timely, accurate results to advance patient care. Recognizes and resolves problems caused in pre analytical, analytical, or post analytical situations. Follows all hospital and departmental safety protocols and procedures.  This includes infection control policies. Consistently performs phlebotomy using department protocols and procedures to assure quality specimens.  This includes serving all patient populations including ages, cultures, languages, literacy, learning needs and abilities.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field

 

License & Certification:

Current certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the National Board of Registry, American Society Clinical Pathology (ASCP).  If not present at hire, must have within one year of start date.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

Knowledge and skills sufficient to provide technical instructions and communicate and advise other departments on clinical laboratory procedures.

 

Preferred:

1-2 years experience
