Technician A Electro - Mechanical + Job Number: 24769 + Functional Area: Trades + Department: Plasma Science and Fusion Center + School Area: VP Research + Employment Type: Full-Time + Employment Category: Non-Exempt + Visa Sponsorship Available: No + Schedule: M-F Email a Friend Save Save Apply Now Posting Description TECHNICIAN A ELECTRO – MECHANICAL, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), to collaborate closely with a dynamic team of professionals, including engineers, scientists, technicians and students to assemble and maintain complex scientific experiments and facilities; assemble, install, and maintain various scientific apparatus and support equipment based on mechanical drawings, schematics, or verbal instructions including cryogenic, high vacuum, gas delivery, mechanical pumps, HVAC, and other systems to support a range of scientific capabilities from superconducting magnets to particle accelerator and plasma experiments; assemble and install scientific equipment based on mechanical drawings, schematics, or verbal instructions; assemble, maintain, and operate cryogenic, high vacuum, gas delivery, HVAC, and other relevant electromechanical systems; accurately document all maintenance and repair activities promptly; and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team of technicians, engineers, scientists, and students to build, maintain, and operate large-scale scientific capabilities. Job Requirements REQUIRED: A two-year technical school degree or equivalent experience; familiarity with controls for equipment such as water pumps, compressors, gear pumps, motors, and vacuum pumps, and electric and pneumatic controllers; expertise in HVAC systems, including control mechanisms and troubleshooting, and plumbing, including soldering, pipe threading, and system installation; ability to obtain and maintain both a Massachusetts forklift operator license and a Massachusetts hoisting license; and experience with cryogenics, high vacuum, electromagnets, particle accelerators, and/or other large-scale experimental systems.
