The Headlines:

 

In the role of Technician working in Elkton, VA you will be part of the packaging team. You will operate and maintain packaging area equipment including packers, fillers, labelers, seamers, depalletizes, palletizers, wrappers, and other associated equipment.  You will also execute autonomous maintenance as an equipment owner, while supporting continuous improvement efforts around safety, quality, and cost. 

 

The Responsibilities:

 

Responsible for operating, understanding, and rotating through all pieces of packaging equipment. Responsible for the sanitation of all equipment on the assigned line. Must complete reporting concerning productivity, quality, safety, maintenance, line information, manpower schedule, station control, waste monitoring, or training records in an accurate, timely and legible manner. Must perform line checks, assist with accident investigations/follow-up, assist with hazard analysis, assist with audits, and attend meetings as required. Must read and interpret packaging schedules, job procedures or work instructions, and any special notices and/or instructions. Responsible for utilizing forklift to move material and/or finished product to and from the line. Responsible for communicating with the team on all matters pertaining to the overall operation and function of equipment in the process area. Partners with team on effective shift handovers, according to standards. Partners with Line Leader, Process Leader and Training Specialist to implement training plans. Onboards new team members according to the standard onboarding process. Responsible for communicating and coordinating activities with maintenance, quality, asset care, and other specialists as required. Responsible for assisting management with process changes and adjustments to standard operating procedures. Responsible for and dedicated to personal and team safety in relation to completion of tasks and duties. Responsible for and dedicated to quality in relation to completion of tasks and duties. Responsible for assisting in the implementation and workings of WCSC 2.0 while performing work. Partners with teams and safety council members to identify and highlight unsafe work practices and escalate/correct with a sense of urgency. Responsible for autonomous maintenance of valves, motors, pumps, filter and gear boxes including lubricating all machinery, making necessary operational adjustments, troubleshooting identified issues, and ensuring equipment is running efficiently producing a quality product. Performs housekeeping as required to maintain a safe and clean workplace while complying with GMP requirements.

 

The Other Qualifications:

 

High school education or equivalent required Ability to obtain a Fork truck license 2-year Associates Degree in a technical field of study.  Knowledge in MS Outlook and MS Word High level of mechanical aptitude/ability Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Safe Quality Food Procedures, and Safety    Prior knowledge in set-up and operation of multiple pieces of production equipment. 3+ years in manufacturing experience in an operator-based maintenance role – performing set-up, operation, changeover, and maintenance of equipment, systems, and tooling, or a minimum of an associate’s degree.  Military service may be substituted for manufacturing experience.  Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and make decisions in a team-based setting. Ability to work full-time, all shifts, all schedules, and all days of the week to include weekends and holidays. Ability to be called in for emergency coverage and work overtime as necessary.
