Telecommunication Technician – MSO-EPC

JOB SUMMARY 

The Mobile Switching Office-Evolved Packet Core (MSO-EPC), also known as the Southern Linc Network Operations Center (NOC), is the critical 24 x 7 x 365 monitoring and resolution facility. The primary responsibilities of the position are to provide network monitoring, 1st level troubleshooting, documentation, and problem resolution for the Southern Linc LTE/4G wireless network.  Successful candidate will participate in, coordinate and assist with providing system upgrades, capacity increases, emergency system restoration deployments, storm preparation and response, performance optimization and support the operational efficiency efforts of Southern Linc Wireless. Candidate will provide assistance to support any future build-out work for the Southern Linc LTE/4G network to include centralized Core infrastructure and RAN components, AC/DC power, and other facility-related needs. Candidate will work as part of a team on rotating shifts. These shifts include some nights, weekends and holiday work as the Operations Center is a 24 x 7 operation. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

A.S Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Digital Telecommunications, Data Networking or 3 or more years of technology industry work experience. AC/DC power experience and knowledge highly desired. Working experience with enterprise-level power rectifiers, inverters and UPS preferred. Facilities knowledge of cabling techniques and standards, HVAC operation, fire suppression systems and security monitoring systems a plus. FCC, TCP/IP, Cyber Security and or other data networking certifications are desirable. Knowledge and experience with installing, maintaining and or troubleshooting legacy TDM transport networks and or data networks is preferred. Ericsson LTE Evolved Packet Core network experience with various tools, including ENM, Alarm Status Matrix, Alarm List Viewer, as well as Ericsson LTE RBS RAN experience with various tools, including, Element Manager, AMOS is preferred. Experience with traffic analysis tools, such as NetScout, to identify faults and failures in network and end-user experience is desired. Field Operations and or central switch office experience preferred.   Strong and proven technical problem-solving skills. Ability to work and thrive within a team-oriented work environment. Able to work on a rotating shift work schedule including some nights, weekends and holidays. Very minimal travel requirements.  Limited to training opportunities and the occasional off-site meeting. Work location is primarily in-office.  Occasional teleworking, as a portion of the shift schedule, a possibility.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

Monitor, evaluate, resolve and/or escalate service impacting issues for the Southern Linc LTE network. Assist with future buildouts of the Linc LTE/4G Network, including RAN field implementation, transport and networking testing/verification and central Core network expansion. Provide 1st level identification, troubleshooting, resolution and/or escalation to Network Specialists or vendors for MPLS and TCP/IP data networks and connectivity, Ericsson MiniLink microwave remote troubleshooting. Implement software configuration changes, replace faulty networking hardware, update maintenance logs, support switch room by installing/removing equipment & cabling, as well as server platforms. Provide network connectivity wiring in the central Core, implement software configuration changes, as well as provide assistance for system installations, capacity increases, and upgrades of various types.  Provide tactical expertise to execute scheduled network changes system wide.  Manage the workforce trouble ticketing system (create, assign, track, document, update and close). Make effective use of monitoring and testing tools and applications to support various aspects of the LTE network to identify system failures, minimize service affecting problems, and maximize service availability. Review network performance statistics for system health to identify marginal problems, make daily decisions on break-fix resolution on these issues, dispatch remote personnel to repair when required. Operate a variety of communications and network test equipment including vendor-specific software tools, TCP/IP testing, data monitoring, and network sniffers.  Remotely troubleshoot and dispatch appropriate field operations and/or third-party vendors to resolve LTE RAN cell site issues. Generate and analyze reports, charts and alarms to identify and provide solutions to issues/trends.  Working with Systems Engineers and Analysts, provide installation assistance for facilities, such as data and RF cabling, AC/DC power and equipment/rack installation needs. Offer solutions and coordinate communication between field technicians, technical customer support, Operating Companies, critical customers, and telecommunications vendors. Work as part of team executing storm/major event preparation and response.
