Under the direct supervision of a certified Orthotist or Prosthetist assists in the fabrication, repair, and fitting of orthoses or prostheses as prescribed by a physician.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Works independently.
Fabricates assigned casts according to measurements, model specifications and layouts.
Repairs and/or performs maintenance of orthoses or prostheses as delegated.
Assists in measurements of patients by going with Orthotists or Prosthetists to exam rooms, nursing homes, or hospitals to help position patients during the measurement process.
Operates machinery such as drill presses, ovens, cutters, grinders, lathes, and polishers.
Assists Orthotists or Prosthetists for wraps, measurements, or delivery of items.
Exhibits skills in metal shaping, vacuum forming, laminating, trimming, and sewing by using saws, grinders, ovens, chemicals, and cutters to fabricate. Possesses specialized skills unique to prosthetic and orthotic fabrication.
Assists in inventories of supplies and equipment. Dispenses supplies as directed by Orthotist or Prosthetist.
Performs routine cleaning of laboratory and equipment.
Maintains patient records; notes repairs completed to orthoses or prostheses.
Maintains records for the billing of repairs.

Essential Job Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent.
One year experience as an O&P Technician or equivalent field.
Ability to follow detailed directions, use tools such as drill presses, ovens, cutters, grinders, lathes, and polishers. Works well with people.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Shop work courses in metal, wood, leather, and plastics, as well as mathematics and biology is desired.
Basic understanding of orthotic and/or prosthetic principles.
