Job Description

Grace is seeking a Technician Specialist to join our FCC Process Technology Team reporting to the FCC Process Tech Lead at the Process Innovation Center in Curtis Bay, Maryland.

 

In this role, you will support Grace’s Special Material Request (SMR) program and assist in making laboratory/pilot scale preparations of FCC catalysts and additives. In the SMR program, an inventory of commercial plant production retains of a variety of grades is maintained and samples are prepared and sent to customers when they request them for exploratory or request for proposal (RFP) testing. Typical activities include drum handling, forklift operation, sample testing, sample packaging and preparing shipping paperwork. When engaged in preparing catalyst typical activities will include operating pilot scale equipment.

Responsibilities Follow all Environmental Health & Safety requirements and do all required safety training.  Work safely with chemicals/materials and wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for the job. Perform the laboratory/pilot scale preparation of FCC catalysts. Submit samples for analysis and evaluation. Operate and share maintenance of pilot plant equipment with other group members. Equipment includes spray dryer, mixers, mills, gas emission scrubber, washing tanks and ovens. Perform the necessary housekeeping maintain a clean and safe work area. Collect and record data. Work with Word and Excel spreadsheets for data recording, data processing and reports. For the SMR program: Maintain warehouse of apx. 600 sample drums in neat, orderly and safe fashion Pull required samples from inventory, sample into appropriate containers, and send for analysis Prepare shipping and customs paperwork for shipments Operate equipment necessary to fulfill mission of role including a v-blender, sweco screen, and calciner Maintain complete and accurate records of work done Maintain a safe and orderly workplace and update safety documentation and procedures as necessary While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb multiple levels of stairs and be physically capable of regularly lifting/moving up to 40 pounds. Work schedule is days with occasional shift work as needed for key projects. Work location is Curtis Bay, MD with occasional project support at our Columbia location.  Physical Requirements and Environment Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft. Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator Required Qualifications High School diploma with 5 years relevant laboratory, manufacturing, or skilled trade experience; AA degree in technical field, or BS/BA degree in technical field with minimum 1 year relevant laboratory, manufacturing or skilled trade experience. Preferred Qualifications Stationary Engineer's License, 5th grade preferred Must be able to obtain forklift driver certification Strong attention to detail Ability to work independently and set priorities with little outside direction Ability to use standard office programs- email, Word, Excel Mechanical aptitude- ability to troubleshoot pilot scale equipment Desire for continuous improvement of operations Benefits
