Instructs dealership technicians in the theory of operation, diagnosis, and repair of automotive systems used in Nissan and Infiniti vehicles; verifies their understanding of the subject matter using competency based training; prepares classrooms, workshops, and vehicles as appropriate; and maintains attendee training records in software system database. Responsibilities include facility related tasks and training vehicle inventory maintenance.

A Day in the Life:
The following job function statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed. The job function statements reflect expectations of the fully trained, proficient incumbent who meets all performance criteria.
1. Conducts classroom lectures and discussions on theory of operation, technology, and specific automotive systems used in Nissan and Infiniti vehicles; instructs and demonstrates the use of special tools and equipment; verifies that students understand training and are competent to perform repairs as instructed.
2. Performs classroom setup for instruction including collecting, preparing, and arranging media such as DVD’s, Technician guidebooks, Power Point presentations, diagram boards, and other materials collected from outside sources.
3. Organizes workshop, vehicles, and workstations that use components such as engine or transmission assemblies and simulators that depict specific systems or components. Assure that vehicles are appropriately set-up for the training session.
4. Print class rosters, track technician progress and update training records at the completion of each class, Advise Dealer if technician incompletes class, help with enrollment activities when requested.
5. Works with area manager to maintain a vehicle inventory to ensure the correct mix of vehicles is available to support training curriculum and training vehicles are properly serviced and repaired.
6. Maintains training center appearance and efficient operation; May be required to coordinate facility maintenance with vendors.
7. Orders office and classroom supplies, technician’s guidebooks and support materials, and shop supplies.
8. Schedules the use of the facility for other Nissan/Infiniti departments.
9. As necessary, performs other related duties of which the above are representative.
Who We're Looking for:
The following qualification statements reflect the minimum skills and abilities required of the qualified applicant.
1. Job Knowledge and Skill:
Very strong automotive technical knowledge/background, preferably with some specific Nissan/Infiniti experience. Skill in effectively managing classroom and workshop environments. ASE Master Tech Certification a plus.
2. Experience:
Five or more years of work experience in a technical discipline, including two or more years of directly related professional Training experience.
3. Education:
Professional Certification (e.g. OEM Master Technician, ASE Master Technician etc.) or an AA degree. Consider equivalent related college or technical courses, seminars and in-house classroom training.
4. Computer Skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, other PC applications, or mainframe applications.
Physical Requirements
The physical requirements described below are representative of those an employee must normally meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable otherwise qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
1. Travel:
20% day and overnight travel. Travel may consist of driven, flight based, or a combination of both.
2. Classroom Preparation:
Must have capabilities to move tables and chairs during class changes as well as move and place guide books and job aids (shipped in case lots).
3. Shop Preparation:
Must possess mobility sufficient for repetitive ingress and egress of vehicles, as well as the capability to walk several hundred feet to retrieve training vehicles, clean them as necessary and place them in the shop. Must be able to place vehicles on a frame contact lift, requiring repetitive kneeling and arm strength sufficient to properly place lift arms under vehicle. Must have sufficient arm strength to work with arms above head to prepare vehicles for training exercises after they are positioned on overhead lifts. Must have the mobility to work under the dash area of vehicles to prepare workshop exercises. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time as well as walk throughout the shop area to address technicians learning needs during workshop activities. Must be capable of lifting 60 pounds when moving component based training materials. Must be capable of removing and replacing wheel and tire assemblies during chassis training preparation and demonstration.
4. Vehicle Inventory Maintenance:
Must be capable of working overhead such as when changing training vehicle fluids, as well as capable of lifting wheel and tire assemblies during tire rotations, lifting 12 volt batteries out of vehicles for replacement, etc.
