Technology and Innovation Specialist


Position purpose: 
The Technology and Innovation Specialist at the Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine (FCoM) plays a pivotal role in advancing technological integration within the medical education program. This position is central to facilitating seamless collaboration between the medical school's operational units and the University information technology department. The primary responsibility of the Technology and Innovation Specialist is to provide comprehensive support for technology within the medical education program. This includes delivering end-user desktop support, overseeing the setup, integration, and maintenance of new equipment and software, with a particular focus on technical aspects related to virtual anatomy and pathology programs. The role involves close coordination with external vendors to troubleshoot and resolve equipment and software issues specific to the medical education program. The Technology and Innovation Specialist serves as a key liaison, ensuring effective communication and resolution between FCoM and technology vendors. This position is instrumental in driving technological advancements and innovations within the medical education curriculum, contributing significantly to the enhancement of learning experiences and the overall quality of education provided by FCoM. The successful candidate will actively engage in fostering a technologically proficient environment that supports the evolving needs of medical education, aligning with the institution's commitment to excellence in academic programs and student success.

Essential Functions: 

1. End User Desktop Support:
Provide exceptional technical support to end-users within the medical education program, ensuring prompt resolution of hardware and software issues. Assist faculty, staff, and students in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving technology-related problems.



2. Equipment and Software Setup and Integration:
Lead the setup, installation, and integration of new equipment and software, focusing on the technical aspects of virtual anatomy and pathology programs. Ensure seamless integration of technology tools into the educational curriculum and operational systems.



3. Collaboration with Operational Units and University Desktop Support:
Work collaboratively with operational units within the medical school to assess technology needs and implement effective solutions. Collaborate with the university desktop support team to align and leverage broader technological resources.

4. Vendor Coordination and Problem Resolution:
Serve as the liaison between FCoM and technology vendors, coordinating support and troubleshooting for equipment and software specific to the medical education program.
Identify, escalate, and resolve technical issues in a timely manner, maintaining strong vendor relationships.

5. Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
Proactively explore innovative technologies and solutions to enhance the medical education program's technological infrastructure. Contribute to strategic planning and initiatives aimed at improving technology integration and educational outcomes.

6. Training and Development: 
Collaboratives with the FCoM Office of Medical Education and Faculty Success to develop and coordinate one-on-one and group training sessions to educate faculty, staff and students. Reviews and creates user guidelines and standard operating procedures for supported hardware infrastructure and academic applications
