Technology Lead, Front End

The Front-End Technology Lead (FETL) is responsible for designing and writing code, performing code reviews, developing technical documentation and becoming a key contributor in their team and project. A Front-End Technology Lead acts as a technical leader in projects, ensuring that the team maintains high levels of performance, and builds and strengthens the relationship with the client. 

This role will join a talented team working on BMWUSA.com. We're using the latest technologies including ES6, pub/sub architecture, and a clean component-based approach to deliver reusable, innovative, and responsive experiences. Web performance & accessibility are also key concerns because of their respective importance to user experience and perception of a premium experience.

The FETL will work closely with clients, developers, system administrators, project managers, business analysts and end users. Additionally, the team has several remote members, so we use screenshares and Slack to keep communication flowing. We have a lot of fun and hope you'll join us.

Our new hires & employees are the future of our organization, and we want to set you up for long-term success. In an effort to do so, we expect our team to work from an office a minimum of 3 days a week.    

Please note that this is a contract position with a projected end date of December 20, 2024.

 You will:

Support presentations to clients regarding technical perspectives. Review code, mentor and enforce coding guidelines and best practices for more Junior teammates. Help coordinate the team’s technical communication with other groups such as Creative, Business and Management Own the technical architecture and design of the web solution and oversee the front-end development activities. Gather new user and business requirements, map them to appropriate technical solutions, and estimate the associated development tasks. Ensure concise and clear documentation is maintained by all peers for the projects as dictated by each Capability’s guidelines and best practices. Own software release activities, including but not limited to reviewing code changes, client demos, QA hand-offs, and presenting solutions and justifications for tasks Debug or troubleshoot complex or critical issues that cannot be handled by junior positions, and provide root cause analysis Establish project scaffolding and associated automation tools for the project Create training programs for technologies within fields of expertise Actively participate in Capability activities and initiatives Setup regular one-on-one meetings to provide coaching, feedback, career development, and status reporting Ensure compatibility of code across devices and viewport sizes Assess and optimize page performance and WCAG compliance

You have:

Advanced English Proficiency (B2+ reading, writing, and conversation) Strong communication skills with a team-centric approach to discussion and decision-making within a distributed team. At least 5 years of experience working with Front-End technologies (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) Work experience with cross-browser and cross-device compatibility Work experience with Responsive development Expert knowledge of recent development patterns and practices (Mobile First, MVC, Object Oriented development) Expert knowledge of integrating front-end solutions with APIs and web services Proficiency with popular JavaScript frameworks and cross-browser compatibility Knowledge of design patterns (e.g., model-view-controller, observer, object-oriented, etc.) and working with several mainstream libraries and frameworks (React, VueJS, or any other) Capable of writing code compliant with modern accessibility (eg. ARIA, WCAG, Microformats, ADA, RDF) and SEO guidelines and best practices Capable of working with new technologies and building proof of concept prototypes. BS in Computer Science or related technical discipline; or equivalent strong experience as Software Development Lead in exact areas of expertise required for CM (Digital Agencies projects, Web development projects, SCRUM/Agile software projects).

You may have:

Experience developing within CMS platforms, preferably Adobe Experience Manager 6.4 or newer. Experience developing in backend technologies like Java Experience with performance optimization techniques Experience using and configuring build automation tools (Webpack, Gulp, etc.)
