General Summary
The Telecommunication Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently performing a wide variety of field activities associated with installing, maintaining, and testing various telecommunication and wireless communication components/equipment in both the private and government sectors.Essential Job AccountabilitiesPerform daily assigned tasks according to priorities and plans, making changes when necessary due to weather, supply, delivery and personnel.
Install all material and equipment to customer standards as well as industry standards.
Splice and terminate MM / SM fiber.
Perform fiber testing, including but not limited to OTDR, power meter/laser source, and scopes.
Prepare, tray, and splice fiber optic cable ranging from single fiber to large counts as well as perform ring cuts when needed.
Test, troubleshoot, repair and resolve fiber optic systems.
Locate and access the fiber optic splice enclosures, splice the necessary fibers directly from a splice trailer, bucket truck, or outdoor field set up.
Labeling, documenting, and updating drawings.
Perform and edit “redlined” or “as-built” drawings.
Collect data and/or perform VQA audits for customer closeout packages.
Willingness to learn, take notes and study industry material.
Communicate with management team regarding any delays, changes, and/or emergencies at the job sites.
Other duties as assigned.
EducationHigh School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience, preferred.
Technical certifications in telecommunications, preferred.
OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NWSA, TTT1, Authorized Climber, Competent Climber / Rescuer, Rigging, RF Awareness training, First Aid, CPR & AED certificate, preferred.
Valid driver’s license required; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) a plus.
Work ExperienceExperience in telecommunication/wireless construction, private and/or government sectors, required.
Experience in Small Cell (SC) sites, New Build (NB) sites, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Tower Modifications (MODS), Microwave installation, coax, Cat5 / Cat6 and testing (Sweep / PIM).
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesProficiency with all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability to test and troubleshoot fiber optic.
Ability to read and understand blueprints / site drawings, equipment spec sheets and scopes of work.
Ability to work weekends, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).
Ability to diligently operate industry related equipment and power tools within designated area.
Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
Ability to collaborate with a team.
Physical DemandsPhysical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down. See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors.
Ability to work at various heights on ladders, rooftops, aerial lifts, and communication structures.
Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.
Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.
