Department Overview

 

Power Generation operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 900 coworkers are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner. Our hydro facilities include 62 conventional hydro powerhouses, a pumped-storage facility, 98 reservoirs, 168 dams and more than 200 miles of canals and flumes, among other water conveyances. Natural gas-fired plants in operation are Humboldt Bay Generating Station in Eureka; Colusa Generating Station in Colusa County and Gateway Generating Station in Antioch. Several utility-scale solar generation plants also are operated and maintained, as well as PG&E’s successful entry into battery energy storage, our Elkhorn Battery facility at Moss Landing in Monterey County.

 

Position Summary

 

Responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing the equipment associated with telecommunication infrastructure, network infrastructure and high voltage protection. Provide telephone, radio and computer hardware repair for local offices and field clients, including power plants, garages and service centers.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Problem-solve and assess computer and telecommunications issues using tools and test equipment; contact vendors and specialists as needed; may troubleshoot computer hardware, telephones, radios, microwave antennas, rectifiers, batteries, LAN/WAN, high voltage protection and other issues; some equipment may be located on towers. Repair and replace computer hardware, radios and telephones; process repair and returns; coordinate with vendor and radio shop; complete disposal authorization and dispose of old equipment. Install computer and telephone, hardware and peripherals, mobile radios, field automation system (FAS) equipment, telecommunications devices, servicers, circuits, SCADA lines or other equipment. Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on equipment and site surveys to check facility conditions; perform preventive maintenance on generators, batteries, radios and other equipment; maintain communication rooms and equipment by performing housekeeping and organizing supplies. Maintain circuit, radio, FAS and other databases via computer; research accounting; retrieve and track work in electronic system; complete expense accounts; order parts; coordinate clearances; complete paperwork for repair and returns; email. Drive truck/van to job sites in a variety of environmental conditions; may drive an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), forklift, bucket truck; fuel and inspect vehicle. Attend safety and tailboard meetings.

 

The background of apprenticeship and experience must be such as to qualify the candidate to perform these duties with skill and efficiency

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $66.64 per hour.  This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

 

Must be at least 18 years of age Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience Must possess a valid California Driver's License Ability to work in all types of weather extremes Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays Must be able to lift 100 pounds a minimum of one time a day Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid FCC-Federal Communications Commission Radiotelegraph Operator 1st Class license or a Company-approved certification Must be able to work in confined spaces Must be able to work with and/or around helicopters Must be able to climb towers and work at heights up to 300 feet

 

Desired:

 

Successful completion of telecommunications technician apprenticeship Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Engineering Associate degree or technical certification in IT, Computer Science or Electronics Good verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of computer hardware and radios
