(Temp) Environmental Engineer I Location: White Plains, US **Summary** Environmental Engineering discipline uses principles of engineering, physical sciences, chemistry, mathematics, and biology to design and implement solutions to reduce and minimize impact on the environment from the Authority’s operations. This includes design and monitoring of water and wastewater treatment, waste treatment and oil pollution control and countermeasures, and remediation. Major responsibilities include permitting, data analysis, inspections and monitoring of systems designed to protect the environment, and preparation of plans and reports certifying compliance with permit conditions and laws and regulations to regulatory agencies. Experience in following environmental programs areas is a plus: + Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) + New York State Petroleum Bulk Storage (PBS) registration + New York State Chemical Bulk Storage (CBS) registration + Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) + New York State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) + Lead and asbestos assessment, abatement, and monitoring + New York State pesticide regulations + New York State solid waste management regulations + Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) hazardous waste regulations **Full-time temporary employees are eligible for fully subsidized medical & pharmacy benefits on Day 1 (for themselves and their immediate family), and have access to many additional benefits, including eligibility to participate in our retirement plans.** **\#LI-VB1 #LI-VB1** **Responsibilities** + Provide lead engineer function in support of a limited range of design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities. + Perform site visits to complete field inspections, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations and develop basic technical recommendations + Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours. + Independently coordinate cross disciplinary activities for the successful development and execution of projects. + Select and apply codes, standards, and procedures to work tasks appropriately. + Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied. + Provide direction and review in the development of the project engineering documents and submittals. + Employ environmental and engineering principles and practices and applies key concepts to assess and ensure environmental compliance of utility operations. + Acquire legitimate data from the facilities and the field, and develop consensus for action in an operating and/or construction environment + Review and interpret State and Federal Regulations in the areas of responsibility that may affect Authority operations including the preparation of applications to attain/maintain the permits for compliant operation under all applicable regulations and statutes. + Act as the environmental contact for Authority Operating Facilities, Business Units, the regulatory community (including but not limited to NYSDEC, NYCDEP, and EPA,) and Authority customers as required. + Develop and update existing and/or new Corporate Policies related to areas of responsibilities. **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** + Competency in the design, operation and maintenance of environmental monitoring and treatment systems specific to the electric utility industry. + Fundamental knowledge of air, water and waste pollution control technologies + Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations. + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Collaborative and team-oriented with ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders. + Ability to perform engineering calculations, and complete specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages. + Ability to coordinate the technical and commercial aspects of projects. + Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications. + Working experience with Contaminant fate and transport modeling, emission monitoring, discharge monitoring, air modeling, hydrogeologic, water quality modeling design and forecasting software such as CEMs, MODFLOW, HEC-RAS, MOSES, MIGRATE, POLLUTE, AERMOD, or SWMM preferred. + Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects. + Understanding in application of principles and practice in environmental applications of mathematical modeling, design of pollution control systems, laboratory and field data validation and performance monitoring methodologies. + Ability to prepare original guidance and process designs and documents that support best-in-class operation. + Knowledge of a wide variety of utility industry issues, with particular expertise in one or more specific environmental area **Education, Experience and Certifications** + Bachelor of Science Degree in environmental, mechanical, civil, geotechnical, industrial or chemical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university. + Minimum of five (5+) years of related work experience in environmental engineering, permitting and compliance in a utility and/or industrial sector. + New York State Engineer in Training certification preferred. **Physical Requirements** + Ability to travel throughout New York State on an occasional basis + Physical ability to tour industrial facilities and Authority power plants on a routine basis. **Military Occupational Specialty Codes** **MOS -
