(http://cpw.state.co.us/) Description of Job Colorado Parks and Wildlife is accepting applications for a temporary fish culture technician position at the Monte Vista State Fish Hatchery. The hatchery is located four miles East of the town of Monte Vista, Colorado. This is a cold water trout production facility that produces sub-catchable and catchable trout including rainbow trout, brook trout, tiger trout and Rio Grande cutthroat trout. This is a full time (40 hours per week) position. Hours of operation are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, seven days a week. Duties: Fish Culture:Loading fish onto stocking trucks, feeding fish, cleaning tanks, pushing raceways, cleaning ponds, picking eggs and fry, performing fish counts, removing fish mortality, and other duties as assigned. Buildings and Grounds Maintenance:Spraying weeds, mowing, trimming, cutting weeds, raking, digging, painting, cleaning, general up-keep on buildings and grounds around the hatchery and other duties as assigned. Fish Distribution:Assist with distribution by riding along to stock fish into public waters across the state of Colorado, assist with fish stocking involving packing fish by backpack into remote waters. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights BASIC REQUIREMENTS: + Must be 18 years of age or older + Must have a current & valid drivers' license AND reliable transportation. + Applicants may be subject to successful completion of a comprehensive background check. + Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week, holidays and some weekends. + Willing to work outside, sometimes in inclement weather at high altitude. + Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during the course of a single workday. + Possess strong interpersonal communication skills. + Ability to work with limited supervision as well as work well within a team. + Knowledge of power tools and hand tools is preferred + Knowledge and or experience operating small gas powered equipment such a mowers, weed trimmers and water pumps is preferred. + Previous experience in fish culture is preferred. + Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
