VISITOR SERVICES TECHNICIAN: A customer service based position that involves working in a visitor center or gate entrance, greeting visitors, or may be assigned to work in the field in specialized duties. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills. + Staff the park entrance station and/or the visitor center + Provide information and assistance to visitors (distributes maps/brochures, orients visitors to park facilities and amenities, promotes education programs, educates on State Park regulations, etc.) + Provide information to the boating and non-boating public + Sell parks passes, permits, books, maps, clothing, firewood and other novelties. + May sell gift certificates, search and rescue cards, boat registrations, OHV registrations and snowmobile registrations, fishing and hunting licenses + Operate a cash register + Answering of telephones and transferring/taking messages + Photo-copying and filing + Collects revenue, completes shift report and balances shift box at end of each shift + May prepare campground reservations forms and documents. + May document and report visitor complaints + Cleaning and light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of gates, visitor center and/or offices, including litter pick up + May assist with special events or programs within the park + Other duties as assigned INTERPRETER/VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR:This is a customer service based position that involves facilitating park interpretive and environmental education programs. Develop and present natural resources/historical related programs to park visitors. Specific duties include but are not limited to: + Schedule, plan and present Junior Ranger programs + Schedule, plan and present school and group programs + Schedule, plan and present campfire programs and guided hikes + Schedule, plan and present outreach programs + Provide roving interpretation in campgrounds and day use areas + Work with individual and group volunteers + Trains volunteer naturalists + Work with other State, Federal and local agency naturalists + Market and promote attendance at programs + Recruits, trains, and facilitates volunteer events + May develop brochures and other written materials + May work the visitor center front desk + May assist with special events or programs within the park + Collect, catalog, organize and protect park collections of slides, photographs, specimens, etc. + Attend assigned training sessions + Other duties as assigned PARK MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN: Responsible for all general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including: restrooms, showers, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc. + Operates and performs routine maintenance on State owned vehicles and equipment + Assures quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness + Provides information and assistance to visitors + May assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials and supplies + Performs other duties as assigned TRAIL CREW MEMBER:This is a position designed to maintain and improve existing trail systems on the State Forest State Park (hundreds of miles of heavily used trails throughout the park). This position is tasked with motorized trail as well as non-motorized trail maintenance. + Crew members may work alone or in a group and will be provided assistance with duties, if necessary. This position often works in a backcountry country setting + This is a customer service based agency so this position will work with the public + This position may be called on to assist other positions such as maintenance, rangers or visitor services at times + Will use hand tools, chain saws, Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV’s), skid steer/tractor, etc. to complete tasks + Will perform invasive plant mitigation projects via mechanical and chemical methods + This is a manual labor position that requires Crew Members to be outdoors and exposed to the elements on a daily basis + This positions is part of a 3-person team and will supervise volunteers and contractors as necessary + Other duties assigned + Note: This position is up to 40 hours per week and up to nine months in duration. School schedules MAY be accommodated Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights BASIC REQUIREMENTS: + Must have a valid Colorado drivers' license and reliable transportation + Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and various shifts + Previous experience handling money and working with the public + Computer experience (Microsoft Word, Excel, Point of Sale) is highly recommended and helpful + May need to undergo criminal background investigation + Hours: 40 hours per week, some positions require nights, holidays and weekends + Possess strong interpersonal communication skills + Ability to work with little supervision + May be required to work the entrance station for an 8 hour shift and take lunch in the station PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position will perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Possibly Standing for 8 hours straight on overly busy days. WORK CONTEXT: In addition to work activities, below is a list of means and manner of conducting duties in this position: Radio Communication —Radio communication is a primary means of communication for this position, and used daily. Dealing with external customers is critical to the position and extremely important. Electronic Mail — This is one of the primary means of communication for this job. Face-to-Face Discussions — Face to face discussions occur daily. Duration of Typical Work Week —The number of hours worked is, on average, but not limited to, 40 hours per week. Shifts are generally 8 to 10 hours and days off are generally weekdays. Some position shifts will include weekends and holidays. Consequence of Error —Error in this position could result in minor to serious implications if the mistake that was not readily correctable (depending on the situation). Letters and Memos —Most written communication is handled electronically via email. Contact With Others —Contact with others occurs daily and should be considered one of the critical contexts for the position. Work With Work Group or Team —As explained above, contact with others is critical to the position and is always working as part of a team.
