(http://cpw.state.co.us/) Description of Job EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH ASSISTANT This position coordinates and delivers various environmental education and interpretation programs at the state park and within the local community. Primary duties include coordinating and presenting environmental education and interpretation programming, field data collection, data entry and analysis, and assisting with general park operations such as staffing the visitor center and administrative tasks or other general office duties as assigned. Duties include but are not limited to: + Schedule, plan, and present Junior Ranger, Little Critter, guided hikes, outreach and school programs + Attend community outreach events like Boulder Pride, Denver Cinco de Mayo, and the Colorado Black Arts Festival. + Work with individual and group volunteers + Market and promote attendance at programs + Develop brochures and other written materials + May work the visitor center front desk + May work the entrance station + Assist with coordination and facilitate special events as needed + Assist with the promotion of the park through social media + Attend assigned training sessions + Educate the public about the timed-entry system through public relations contacts at the park, at community events, and on social media. + Conduct brief visitor intercept surveys. + Collect and analyze survey and visitor feedback data and compile a report. + Collect and analyze traffic counter and IPAWS data and compile a report. + Work directly with park visitors to greet and orientate them with the park. + Answer questions about local wildlife, history, culture, and park history. + Sell park passes. + Monitor park radio and use it to communicate with other staff. + Convey information concerning emergencies to staff or 911 via radio or telephone. + Light cleaning duties + Other duties as assigned. VISITOR SERVICES ASSISTANT This is a customer service-based position that provides information to customers and handles all aspects of pass sales while supporting the staff. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills. The Visitor Services Assistant welcomes visitors and provides park-specific information. Duties include but are not limited to: + Staff the park entrance station and/or the visitor center. + Work directly with park visitors to greet and orientate them with the park. + Answer questions about local wildlife, history, culture, and park history. + Operate a cash register, collect revenue, complete shift reports, and balance shift box at the end of each shift. + Sell park passes, permits, registrations, licenses, books, maps, clothing, and novelties. + Monitor park radio and use it to communicate with other staff. + Convey information concerning emergencies to staff and 911 via radio and telephone. + Light cleaning duties at the entrance station and visitor center. + Occasionally hike park trails. + Help with special events and educational programs as needed. + Other duties as assigned. MAINTENANCE, FORESTRY AND TRAILS ASSISTANT Throughout the 2025 season, we will build climbing access trails, mitigate extensive forest fuel, map and remove invasive weeds, and maintain the park’s facilities. You will fit right in if you are happiest outdoors, work hard, and learn every day. Duties include but are not limited to: + General park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities, including restrooms, picnic areas, roads, parking areas, and trails. + Safely and courteously operating and maintaining state-owned vehicles, ATVs, and small power equipment. + Communicating professionally and courteously with visitors, employees, and volunteers. + Identifying, mapping, and removing invasive plants + Leading volunteers in stewardship projects (trails, invasives, forestry) + Assisting with forest fuels mitigation projects, including species/disease identification, crew supervision, felling, bucking, chipping, and saw maintenance. + Performing trail maintenance and construction with a strong focus on stone stairways and walls. + Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights Basic Park Requirements + Must be 18 years of age or older. + Must have a current & valid drivers' license and reliable transportation. + The work site will provide some uniform items, however the employee may be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense. + Applicants will be subject to successful completion of a comprehensive background check. + Must be available to work mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. + Basic computer skills required + Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team. Maintenance, Forestry and Trails Assistant Specific Requirements: + Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week. + Willing to work outside, sometimes in inclement weather. + Must be able to lift 75-100 pounds repeatedly during the course of a single workday. + Willingness and ability to learn new skills are preferred. + Plant/tree identification skills are helpful. + Experience safely operating equipment and tools is helpful. + Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills. + Ability to work independently towards clearly defined projects and outcome. Visitor Services Assistant Specific Requirements: + Must be willing and able to work a minimum of 24 hours per week but can potentially be up to 40 hours per week in the busy season. + Possess strong communication skills to deliver excellent customer service. + Previous experience handling money and working with the public is preferred. + Must be able to lift 10–25 pounds repeatedly during the course of a workday.
