Primary Responsibilities + Safely and effectively managing a 6:1:1 specialized classroom + Write specific lesson plans that adhere to the Common Core; are chronologically and developmentally appropriate; reflect differentiated instruction techniques; incorporate technology, and are creative + Effectively incorporating support staff into the classroom program + Develop Individualized Education Plans ("IEPs") in accordance with current New York State Education and Gateway practice, procedures and policies + Fulfill other duties as assigned Required Qualifications + New York State Certification in appropriate grade levels and as a condition of future employment must be working toward, or be willing to pursue, appropriate Special Education certification in appropriate grade levels + Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, compassion, patience, and active listening + Ability to effectively work with individuals from a diverse array of cultural backgrounds, beliefs, customs, and lifestyles + Ability to physically restrain if required Preferred Qualifications + New York State Certification in Special Education We want to emphasize that the preferred qualifications are not required and that we are committed to helping our future colleagues develop these preferred skills.
