Summary:

As the Test Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, managing, developing and oversight of the execution of test procedures, data collection, and analysis.  Work involves testing/analyzing various powertrain systems/sub-systems in the test cell and/or vehicle level environment.  The Test Engineer will be responsible for standardizing procedures, configuring test systems, data collection & analysis, test reports and working closely every day as an interface between our valued internal/external business partners and support personnel.  The role will provide opportunity for hands-on involvement with Allison products, industrial test equipment, test operating controls systems, and powertrain systems including high horsepower engines, input and output dynamometers, propulsion systems, drivelines, heat exchangers, and cooling systems.  This person will share knowledge, assist and train other engineers by a team approach in all projects.

In this role, you will be a valuable part of the team by:

Establish and generate standard operating procedures and document practices Utilization of a systems engineering approach to design, develop, implement, and complete reliable, repeatable testing in support of business needs and timingContribute and help lead department continuous improvement activities to increase testing efficiency, reduce cost, and drive high levels of qualityAssumes appropriate responsibilities as a member of the assigned product development teamParticipates and leads planning efforts and/or status meetingsPromotes teamwork on all work related assignmentsMaintains willingness to share professional knowledge and experience with teammatesPlans, manages, and oversees the execution of product tests internal or external to Engineering OperationsCreating, managing, and delivering multiple projects on-time and to budgetAssures facilities and support areas are informed, equipped, and prepared to match the flow of test needsIssues the appropriate instructional documents (work requests) as required to initiate and support the flow of testing activitiesAssists in gathering, and performs analysis of test data to ensure its validityCommunicate technical data to internal and external engineering organizations/agenciesHas experience and basic understanding of computer programming to modify durability test cycles and post processing applicationsDocuments test events/results through Test Reports, log entries and database entries as appropriatePrepares, or assists in preparation of program bids or requests for cost estimatesObserves applicable procedures and practices as delineated in Test Operations Manual, PE Procedures, and Standard ProceduresManages, monitors, and assists in assembly process of test units and disposition of partsAdheres to and strives to improve the engineering development processEstablishes and updates best practices and standardized testing proceduresOther duties as assigned

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering or equivalent degree/experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Minimum of 3 years of Mechanical/Electrical/Automotive Engineering or equivalent experienceProficient in oral and written business communicationHigh level of interpersonal skillsAbility to set and meet goals for all deliverablesModerate/adept mechanical proficiencyProficiency with computer operations, including Microsoft Office toolsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings required

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience in laboratory test environmentExperience and knowledge of automatic transmission operation, clutches, controls (both hydraulic and electrical), hydraulics, gears, electric machines, and hybrid and electrified propulsion systems desired but not requiredExperience and understanding of computer programming in order to write & modify test cycles and support data analysis effortsTroubleshooting experience in electronic controls, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems preferredExperience and knowledge of motor/inverter operation and testing
