Test Engineer II

Melbourne, FL (Onsite)

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Test Engineer to contribute to our Ground Support and Repair Equipment (GSRE) team under Aviation Global Services (AGS) Americas Engineering department. The Test Set Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of test program software and test kit hardware (test adapters and cables) for automated and semi-automated test systems.  

In this position, you will also monitor performance and reported issues for all GSRE, and proposing appropriate solutions to mitigate or resolve performance. You will be expected to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work with intra and inter department personnel, reporting progress to all stakeholders.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Design and Development of test software: Primarily using LABVIEW and TestStand, to a lesser degree other programming languages (Visual C, Linux, Perl, etc.); Defining and releasing project documents (SRD, TSD, TPS, User Manuals, etc.) for GSRE tools; Define scope of work for assigned projects (Estimated Project hours, Level of Effort, Cost); Implement and Release TPS code updates for EO’s, bug fixes, obsolescence, etc.Review assigned JIRA ticket issues and implement solutions by effectively planning and communicating status with team members/stakeholders; Create and update task status using ERP system(s) along with other methods and tools. JIRA, Bitbucket, etc.Procure necessary equipment and tools following standard operating procedures, i.e. SAP system.Test asset troubleshooting and validation for test hardware and test software, including TPS validation testing.Test instrument calibration support: schedule calibrations, verify functionality after return, update EAM calibration tool.Represent Thales when working with customers on or off-site that include but not limited to installing new Test Sets and Test Set Support issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Minimum 5 years of in field electronics experience, or an Associate’s degree in electronics with a minimum of 1 to 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.5+ years’ experience in board level testing and troubleshooting using manual bench equipment or automated test equipment.Experience working with Ethernet, USB, RS232 and networking protocols; Experience of working with software systems including Windows 7/10 and LabVIEW/TestStand.Understand test software requirements and prepare the SRD.Ability to follow test procedures and good attention to detail; Work independently based upon your own initiative and as part of a team; Communicate both verbal and written to customers and key stakeholders.

Special Position Requirements

Schedule: Core Business Hours Monday-Friday (8a-5p) and will occasionally involve working some Saturdays and Sundays. Some remote working is acceptable. There is also the availability of a 9/80 work schedule that is negotiated between the employee and manager.Physical Environment: This position will require access to the Irvine Production floor and Tool Crib.Physical Demands: This position occasionally requires lifting items up to 60 lbs., and occasionally heavier; All items over 30 lbs. require a second person to assist in lifting.Travel: This position may require some domestic travel, primarily between Irvine and Orlando/Melbourne of up to 10% annually, and to a lesser degree, International travel.Regulatory Compliance Requirements: None.
