Regional site support is provided through Newmont Asia Pacific’s (APAC) Perth team which is located in modern offices in Subiaco where we provide support to operations in Australia and Indonesia.

Purpose

You will assist with the development, implementation and management of health & safety programs that are aimed towards improving the health and safety of employees within the Newmont Australia region. Additionally you will ensure compliance with all Newmont Corporate Occupational Health and Safety programmes.

Essential Duties

Provide technical hygiene support to each site enabling the development and maintenance of core Occupational Health functions across the Australian Operations. Develop, implement and manage Occupational Health and Hygiene processes for standardisation across the region. Facilitate high level operational risk assessments. Assist in the development, integration and alignment of risk management techniques. Lead and facilitate event investigations. Governance and assurance of Australian operations in the areas of Occupational Health & Hygiene including medical centre evaluations. Identify develop and support improvement process and systems to ensure each site meets its annual health and hygiene objectives and targets. Coach and influence operational leaders. Support the development and implementation of Regional documents to ensure that they are effective and fit for purpose for the operating sites and complaint with Corporate expectations.

Skills & Experience

Tertiary qualified in Allied Health or Occupational Hygiene and Toxicology Minimum 5 years exposure to a heavy industry / mining environment. Strong communication, engagement and influencing skills. Analytical capability. Demonstrated ability in managing existing and emerging health and hygiene risks at an operation/s. Auditor qualifications with experience in auditing Health and Safety standards.

Working Conditions

This position is based in Perth, Western Australia with regular site travel (approximately 40%) within the region. The frequency and duration will be dictated by management plans and objectives. There will be occasions where the role will be required to spend extended durations (months) on certain sites to assist in their delivery of their health & hygiene objectives. 

The role consists of approximately 60% Occupational Health and 40% Safety. A challenge to the role will be providing a scope of services to the sites consistent with the position breakdown.
