Manages Mine Operations personnel as assigned.

Purpose

To direct and control under limited supervision, daily and long-term activities for the mining activities in the open pit area.

Essential Duties

Responsible for Safety, Environmental, and Social Responsibility policies. Creates a suitable work environment to motivate staff, employees and contractors to achieve optimum effectiveness, productivity and operating costs. Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every mine worker under or assigned to his/her supervision Conducts safety meetings, staff meetings and safety inspections. Reports all accidents and incidents in the work group to enable management to identify areas for improvement in work practices. Execute short and long term mine plans. Oversee all mining activities such as: areas to be mined and developed, rate of development; control of mineral quality and tonnage; and the distribution of labor, supplies and equipment. Coordinate the maintenance of mine equipment with the Maintenance Department. Analyze daily production and cost data to ensure the Mine is operating within overall production and budget forecasts. Interact with operating and non-operating departments to develop short –term operating goals and budgets. Coordinate activities with the processing plant management to ensure continuity of total operations. Inspect mine operations on a regular basis to detect and resolve safety, personnel and production problems. Become familiar with and strictly adhere to Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environmental standards. Act as a role model in complying with and supporting these standards and practices.

Training & Experience

Knowledge: 

Degree in Mine Engineering or related field

Experience: 

Minimum 5 years of mining experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience are necessary.

Skills and Abilities: 

Strong presentation, facilitation, and consultation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Ability to identify and analyze organizational needs. Demonstrate strong supervisory, verbal and written communication skills.
