Caterpillar's Resource Industries Operations & Products is currently seeking a Test Engineer to support product development at the Caterpillar Tucson Proving Ground. In this role you will perform engineering assignments while building a working knowledge of Caterpillar and Caterpillar products, technologies, processes, services, and systems. Activities are focused on full scale testing of mining and construction equipment and technology to ensure that products perform as intended and meet customer requirements.
**What you will do:**
• Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
• Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail test plans.
• Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.
**What skills you will have:**
**Product Testing:** Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
Level Basic Understanding:
• Understands common defects that are uncovered through product testing.
• Follows or creates documentation (paper, audio, video) required during the testing process.
**Troubleshooting Technical Problems:** Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.
Level Basic Understanding:
• Explains where to locate basic help facilities and troubleshooting guides.
• Discusses basic concepts behind a systematic approach to solving technical problems.
**Analytical Thinking:** Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
**Decision Making and Critical Thinking:** Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Level Basic Understanding:
• Identifies issues, documents, and communicates with others when a decision is required.
**Effective Communications:** Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Level Working Knowledge:
• Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work.
**Technical Excellence:** Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Level Basic Understanding:
• Uses a structured approach in analyzing and resolving technical problems.
• Seeks opportunities for continual learning to maintain technical competence in pursuit of technical excellence.
**Top Candidates will also have:**
Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
**Additional Information:**
The primary location for this position is Tucson Proving Ground, Green Valley, AZ.
Domestic relocation assistance is not available.
This position may require 10 % travel.

**Summary Pay Range:**
$87,480.00 - $131,280.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
