The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", Department of Pediatrics- School Health Initiative has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Therapist to work in Miami.
The Therapist provides a full range of therapeutic care as prescribed by the University and federal policies and procedures in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Moreover, the Therapist demonstrates familiarity with a variety of assessment techniques including methodologies and skills training. An employee in this position relates and interacts well with patients relative to their age specific, physical, and psychosocial needs.
Core Responsibilities:
Interviews, evaluates, and assesses the needs of patients, and develops treatment plans.
Works in conjunction with multidisciplinary service teams to ensure implementation of coordinated psychosocial serves as it relates to program participants’ needs.
Prepares progress notes, reports and correspondence.
Maintains case records confidential.
Conducts ongoing individual, groups, and family counseling sessions with patients.
Completes psychosocial evaluations, assesses psychological disorders, prepares comprehensive clinical summaries, and makes treatment recommendations.
Interprets psychological or psychiatric case information from patients interviewed and from medical or psychiatric sources.
Assists with the recordation of data and statistics.
Serves as program liaison to collaborating service providers, the courts, and treatment centers.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions:
Provide psychosocial intakes, consultations, interventions, and/or treatment planning to patients and families to assist them in coping with their chronic illness, diagnosis, and/or life situation and meet the continuing needs of patients in the school-based health center.
Provide intakes/ consultations of patients to identify emotional, social, and environmental strengths and problems related to their diagnosis, illness, treatment, and/or life situation.
Assess for suicide risk and ideation.
Administer a broad variety of therapies and formulates, develops, and implements a plan utilizing appropriate mental health interventions
Provide ongoing case management to patients.
Provide psychoeducation and counseling to patients and their families as needed around issues related to adaptation and acceptance of their diagnosis, career counseling, scholarship information, successful transition into adult care, 504/IEP Planning, and/or life situations. Referral to community mental health providers when appropriate.
Be available to attend weekly mental health and school health meetings and provide recommendations and referrals in an appropriate capacity for patient care.
In-person attendance daily at school health clinics
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary staff to design and implement treatment plans in the outpatient setting.
Facilitate treatment planning across a multidisciplinary care continuum which includes consulting physicians, school personnel, third-party payers, and other mental health care providers to facilitate movement of the patient through the system and arrangement of an appropriate treatment plan.
Provide patients and families with local and national community resources.
Assist patients and families experiencing financial, insurance, and/or career hardships. Connect them with financial resources.
Assist patients experiencing insurance challenges. Provide them with insurance resources and education.
Document all interactions with patients in a timely manner (within 36 hours of initial contact). In all required domains: Health Office Anywhere, Redcap, and UChart.
Report all patient abuse and neglect disclosures or observations to the authorities and your supervisor.
Attend school events as needed which may occur in the evenings or weekends.
Other job-related duties as needed.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required, Master’s in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy or related field preferred.
Certification in relevant specialty or field.
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
