Overview
The therapy technician assists with set up for patient treatment, performs a variety of housekeeping tasks, cares for equipment and performs a variety of assigned clerical tasks. The therapy technician is responsible for assisting with routine patient care activities as requested and under the direct supervision of a licensed professional. Such activities may include, but are not limited to, functional mobility training, strengthening, and ROM exercises and activities of daily living. The therapy technician will assist with transportation of patients as needed and will strive to provide a safe, clean and organized environment for patients and staff.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
· Performs clerical duties for therapists and staff (e.g., faxing, scanning, copying, activity creation, filing)
· Assists with the preparation and cleaning of equipment and treatment area
· Coordinates maintenance requests and maintains all departmental equipment
· Assists with transportation of patients as needed
· Orders supplies for the department
· If needed, under the direct supervision of a licensed therapy professional, the therapy technician may assist with treatment such as: exercise, gait, ADLs, adaptive equipment, therapeutic exercise, and communication
· Performs other tasks as requested

+ Reports any questions or concerns regarding compliance immediately to the attention of department or organization/hospital administrative staff
+ Utilizes a family-centered approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served

OTHER FUNCTIONS: The following are performed on an as needed basis:
· Provides support at front desk by assisting with phone answering, patient requests, and basic EPIC functions
+ This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the IH-DM Hospital Emergency Incident Command System.Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained
+ Performs functions other than described due to extenuating circumstances
Basic UPH Performance Criteria

· Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position
· Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare
· Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year
· Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance

Education:
+ At least 16 years of age
+ Must read, write, speak and comprehend English
+ Must be able to communicate effectively (written and orally) with people of diverse professional, educational and lifestyle backgrounds
+ Basic computer knowledge and skills preferred
+ High school graduate or equivalent preferred
Experience:
+ Passion to serve people
· One year experience in a medical setting preferred or experience as a therapy aide/tech/volunteer or current enrollment in a PT/OT/ST program
