Thermal and Fluid Systems Engineer
**DESCRIPTION** Key Responsibilities + Investigate product, system, and/or technology problems related to thermal and fluid sciences. + Understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate actions, own problem resolution, and document results with guidance from more experienced team members. + Apply and support the improvement of processes such as Pre Program Planning (PPP), Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), or Value Package Change (VPC), Engineering Standard Work (ESW), Functional Excellence Practice (FEP), and tools related to thermal and fluid sciences. + Obtain input and negotiate with immediate stakeholders, such as team members, technical managers, project leaders, other Thermal Sciences engineers, product and manufacturing engineers, and supplier partners. + Make decisions in the areas of day-to-day project details, such as conducting analysis, testing, and communication with stakeholders. + Own problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems, or services. + Provide independent execution of established work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge. + Contribute effectively toward team goals, exhibit influence within a work group, and continue to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role. **RESPONSIBILITIES** **Qualifications** + College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required. + Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles. + This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. **Competencies** + **Applies Principles of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer** : Interprets and predicts the performance of fluid and thermal systems. + **Applies Principles of Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion Systems** : Interprets and predicts the performance of energy conversion systems. + **Product Failure Mode Avoidance** : Mitigates potential product failure modes. + **Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis** : Impacts product design decisions through computational tools and methods. + **Product Problem Solving** : Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer. + **System Requirements Engineering** : Translates stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements. + **Systems Thinking** : Defines the system of interest and analyzes linkages and interactions between elements. + **Collaborates** : Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others. + **Communicates Effectively** : Develops and delivers multi-mode communications. + **Decision Quality** : Makes good and timely decisions. + **Drives Results** : Consistently achieves results, even under tough circumstances. + **Self-Development** : Actively seeks new ways to grow and be challenged. + **Values Differences** : Recognizes the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization. + **Applies Principles of Statistical Methods** : Analyzes technical data using statistical methods. + **Technical Documentation** : Documents information based on knowledge gained. + **Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control** : Plans, schedules, coordinates, and executes product development activities. + **Design and Application of Open/Closed Loop Controls** : Specifies software features that interact with mechanical, hydraulic, chemical, and electronic systems. **QUALIFICATIONS** **Skills and Experience** + Proficiency in 3-step (Diagnostic) tuning process for E, D, L reviews in international forums. + Field data analysis and interpretation. + Understanding of engine and after-treatment system interaction. + CSAR simulation skill / CROSS development. + Insight into regulation requirements. + Testing and validation. + Collaboration and cross-functional skills. + Knowledge of key diagnostic tools - Cap GUI, DDT, CDT, MIL decision tree, FSC, etc. + Test bed handling. + Problem-solving. + Matlab and Simulink competency. + Entry-level/early career professional experience.
