Your Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to join our team of professionals in the Thermal Power Generation sector, based out of our Calgary or Edmonton office. In this role you will act as the key client interface point for some of our projects and help develop our growing team of project delivery and technical personnel in the Thermal Generation sector.

You will be required to promote a culture of client service for both internal and external stakeholders and be responsible for helping to build our teams strength in understanding and anticipating client needs and expectations, developing and executing proposal and project strategies to advance the client’s objectives, establishing priorities, and promoting alignment across program and project teams.

Your Key Responsibilities Consistently demonstrate a commitment to Stantec’s Health and Safety culture. Provide Thermal Generation project delivery subject matter expertise. Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, vendors, consultants, and regulators as needed using a professional communications approach. Bring a strong understanding of earned value progressing methods to gauge project health and identify and report early warning signs to our leadership as well as to our client. Facilitate key meetings for the project (both external and internal).    Identify, mitigate, communicate, and document project risks in the risk register. Monitor and control project performance against budget, schedule, quality and safety requirements. Day-to-day project oversight and communication with key project stakeholders. Champion proactive change management on your projects (identification of scope changes, preparing, reporting and managing change orders). Review and track all contracts, invoices, and payments. Ensure corporate policies and procedures are being adhered to. Coordinate with the Thermal Generation Sector and Business Leadership teams to ensure alignment and consistency of project execution across Stantec’s different teams and locations. Support Business Center Leadership in resource management processes, recruitment, succession planning, and coaching/mentoring for PMs and Project Leaders specifically in our Thermal Generation sector.   Support business development by contributing to RFPs, SOQs, and other inquiries for Stantec’s capabilities in Thermal Generation. Support the business development team in the development of project scopes, schedules, budgets, and execution plans for major projects, ensuring plans are fit-for-purpose.  Network with the industry to identify and bring in opportunities. Support client relationship management efforts through coaching and mentoring of our team in how to build valued and long-lasting relationships with clients.  Achieve billable utilization target as agreed annually. Initial expectation for utilization in the range of 70% – 80%. Your Capabilities and Credentials Proven experience building, leading, and managing high performing project teams. Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Knowledge of scheduling, project controls, and document controls concepts, and how to successfully incorporate these teams into projects. Knowledge of multi-discipline engineering services related to Thermal Generation projects. Experience in business development, proposal, and budget development. Demonstrated leadership competencies – act as a highly regarded leader, thought partner and a source of counsel and advice. Problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify when a project is in trouble (e.g., deviations from baseline scope, schedule, or budget) and provide guidance on mitigation measures or corrective action to address the problem. Thermal Generation project delivery subject matter expertise. Proven business development and client relationship management experience. Strong organizational skills and ability to work across multiple offices and geographies. Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills to effectively work and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external customers. Understands typical phases of project delivery and client procurement procedures. Experience in managing client expectations, budgets and schedules. Works in a team environment without direct supervision. Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite. Ability to drive change and deliver positive impact through influence. Ability to travel to US and Canadian offices and client sites, as required. Holds a valid drivers’ license. Education and Experience Professional Engineer in relevant engineering or business-related fields.   Minimum of 25 years of Project Delivery, Management, or Leadership experience, ideally in the Thermal Generation sector. Project Management Certification (PMP) is an asset. Experience in Project Management in an EPCM environment leading multi-disciplinary teams through design, construction, commissioning and closeout. Experience supporting oil, gas, power and energy projects through to construction.
