Caterpillar, Inc.
**Career Area:**
Enterprise Cross Functional
**Job Description:**
**Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.**
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
**Virtual Product Development / Simulation**
**Thermal Management Systems (Cooling systems)** **(Thesis)**
The domain deals with modelling (1D and 3D), validation and simulation of Thermal management Systems and electrical systems related to the CAT wheeled excavator product. The assignment involves modelling of various performance of the components that comprise the Thermal management system of the machine. (Ex. Cooling cores, fans etc.). The next step would be to develop the virtual thermal system using the above components. This virtual thermal system shall be validated against the available machine test data. This developed virtual thermal system model shall be used to evaluate various design studies for future design optimization. This assignment will use CAT developed tools for system design and standard tools for CFD analysis.
The assignment shall be offered as a Bachelor thesis, where the focus will be on modelling and validation of individual components, and the systems-level modelling and validation will be of focus in a Masters thesis.
**Power Systems** **-** **Electrical and Hybrid** **P** **ower** **S** **ystems** **(Thesis)**
The domain deals with modelling (1D) of various Power systems that powers the CAT wheeled excavator product. Appropriate Thermal management systems for each of the system shall be modelled. The evaluation and comparison of various Power concepts for a typical work cycle of the machine such as:
Engine, Engine-Battery Hybrid, Tethered Electric etc. need to be evaluated.
Components and systems shall be validated against the available test data. The assignment can be offered as a Bachelor thesis, where the focus will be on modelling and validation of individual components, and the systems-level modelling and validation of power and cooling systems and the comparison study of the performance of various power systems will be the focus of Masters thesis.
