About the Role:
The OverWatch Research and Development team, known as the Strategic Counter-Adversary Research (SCAR) team, conducts applied research, unbounded by specific technologies, to enhance our ability to expose and counter adversaries' activities through the development of novel detection technologies and tooling to optimize analyst workflows. The team consists of Engineers, Researchers, and Subject Area Experts who work together to conceive, design, prototype, and implement novel tooling. The position for the internship is as a Research Intern, taking part in innovation research and prototype development.
The SCAR internship is a hybrid remote role based out of CrowdStrike’s Austin office. The intern is expected to work from the CrowdStrike office two times a week and should be within travel distance from the Austin office.
What You'll Do:
The OverWatch R&D internship is a 12-week full-time summer internship that provides individuals with experience researching and developing technology in support of cybersecurity threat hunting. The intern will spearhead a key data analysis project focused on identifying and illustrating malicious activities to enhance threat hunting capabilities. Additionally, the role may involve contributing to various ongoing R&D team projects as required. The internship program will also provide the opportunity to shadow different members of the team to gain exposure to threat hunting methodologies.
What You’ll Need:
Demonstrate passion for cybersecurity through one or more of the following:
Cybersecurity-related major (Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, International Affairs, Government, Informatics, etc) graduating between December 2025 - June 2026
Relevant coursework (Computer Systems, Operating Systems, Cybersecurity Policy, Networking, Identity Management)
Extracurricular activities (e.g., capture-the-flag competitions, cybersecurity clubs)
Required: Programming experience
Preferred: Coursework or personal projects
Key languages: Python, Go, Java
Also considered: Data analysis languages (e.g., R) on a case-by-case basis
You must have the ability to work individually and on a team for projects. We will be asking about past examples of both types of experience in the interview.
You must be eligible to work in the US.
You must be a rising senior.
This will mean that you should be scheduled to graduate during the Summer of 2026 or December 2025.
