Overview

Contributes to the overall success of the U.S. Real Estate Investment Banking Group in New York ensuing specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. 


What You’ll Do 
•    Build and analyze advanced financial models including merger models, discounted cash flow, LBO, comparable companies, precedent transactions and operating models
•    Strong team orientation and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with team members across multiple groups
•    Execute a range of advisory related tasks including financial analysis, modeling, industry research, due diligence, etc.
•    Effectively communicate and coordinate internally with multi-disciplinary team (ECM, DCM, etc.) as well as externally with representatives of the client and potential buyers / sellers
•    Prepare marketing materials for client meetings which illustrate industry / company specific analyses and summarize material information, key market themes and strategic alternatives
•    Assist in the development and implementation of various corporate finance projects / studies for clients and new business development
•    Maintain database of corporate takeovers and asset transactions in the real estate industry
•    Maintain trading comparables database with financial and operating data for the universe of public REITs
•    Maintain / design Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides on the corporate M&A market and asset acquisition and divestiture market for presentations and for comparative analysis
•    Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
•    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
•    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of the day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
•    Manage and mentor analysts by providing detailed guidance and feedback
•    Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.


What You’ll Bring 
 
•     2-4 years of industry experience
•    Previous investment banking (sector agnostic) or real estate corporate banking experience
•    Expert PC skills especially spreadsheet programs including macros, to develop, use, manipulate and maintain databases and models
•    Series 79, 63 and SIE licenses, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
•     Strong financial analysis capability, to conduct required financial analysis
•     Strong writing skills
•    Analytical thinking (level 3) - to recognize issues/solve problems, using judgment and common sense while reviewing transactions, reports, etc
•    Excellent organization, planning and time management skills and ability to work under tight time constraints; able to prioritize workload to meet tight deadlines and multi-task; results oriented to accomplish all tasks within pre-set non-negotiable deadlines
•    Accuracy & thoroughness - to ensure that work is completed correctly, thoroughly and is of highest quality
•    Ability to communicate clearly to variety of audiences, verbally and in writing; to interact with firmness and diplomacy with others
•    Ability to participate in projects and assist/interact with other team members to ensure all deadlines are met
