Position Overview:
We have a new opportunity for a Qualified Lawyer to join our legal team to focus on our newly created Structured Notes business. Based in our London office, you will have the exciting opportunity to be the product lead from a Legal perspective. This unique role will allow you to grow and develop on the Structured Notes experience that you will already have whilst using that experience to guide the development of the business as the main point of contact for this area.
 
What You’ll Do:

•    Serve as legal point person in connection with the issuance of structured notes in Europe that are issued and managed by Scotiabank and linked to various asset classes such as equities, rates, commodities, currencies, indices and baskets. 
•    Manage legal aspects of structured notes transactions, including (1) reviewing programme and deal documentation and marketing materials and (2) participating in presentations of new products to relevant internal committees.
•    Review and provide advice on proposed new products, including potential legal, regulatory and reputational risks.
•    Work with the business client to integrate into their current process flows and support increasing deal flow.  
•    Coordinate closely with international Legal department colleagues to help ensure consistency, where appropriate, with Scotiabank’s structured notes programme in other jurisdictions and assist with maintenance of the relevant European programme.   
•    Provide oversight of external counsel supporting Scotiabank’s European structured products business. 
•    Provide advice regarding UK and European legal and regulatory requirements related to marketing and issuing of structured products as well as other business conducted by the desk
  
What You’ll Bring:
•    Significant legal experience working on structured notes at a major investment bank or law firm. Some experience of retail targeted products would be beneficial.
•    Qualified solicitor admitted in England and Wales with demonstrable post-qualified experience (PQE). 
•    A confident SME in the structured notes space, with the ability to manage your own work-flow 
•    Ability to handle a large legal workload, taking primary responsibility for appropriate issues and have an ability to operate in a high stress environment with minimal supervision.
•    Have a high level of integrity and a high degree of common sense being able to work both as part of a team and alone where appropriate. This is a complex and demanding environment requiring considerable initiative and good judgment.
